Can't agree amigo. Aerial is indeed a wonderful album with stunning production . Snow is overrated.
1. Hounds of Love
2. Aerial
3. Kick inside
4. Before the Dawn
5. Lionheart
6. 50 words
7. Red shoes
i'd rank PJ Harvey's & Goldfrapp's discography above Kate, and Beth Gibbons' work too although she's less of a songwriter....but Kate's obviously the pioneer, and personally i love her later era, tho' every one of her albums has a few highlights.

Any reason you didn't rank The Dreaming, Never For Ever, A Sensual World?

I haven't checked out Before The Dawn, i remember it getting rave reviews. Prologue is probably my all-time favourite Kate song, just checked the track-listing and there's a 10-minute version on there!

Just convinced me to order the cd lol

I was never really into The Dreaming and Never for Ever , although Breathing is one of my all time favourite songs.

Shamefully I've never listened to A Sensual World - no idea why not ! I do have Red Shoes on vinyl too which I'm not keen on.

Thanks to you i just ordered it from World of Books for less than a tenner...seems reasonable.

And i like Hounds of Love, i own the alternative cut on Maxi:

...but those first 35 minutes of the Snow album are superlative. Up there with my favourite musik from anyone. I hope she does more long-form stuff, she's due a new album.

Being motivated by your post i just relistened to Snow.

Yes It's good but it's a bit morose and undoutably a Winter album. Aerial is so much more uplifting.

i listen to it anytime: they all give me goosepimps: the line from her son in the opener "my fleeting Soooooooooong" just soars with beauty.

Lake Tahoe has addictive moreish melodies that the length just flies by, and Misty has arguably Kate's finest lyrical work. I see the images of her dalliance with her snowman so vividly!

But i agree with you that Aerial has a more uplifting vibe, tho' i think "morose" is a little harsh to describe those first 3 Snow pieces...melancholy, wistful, longing i'd go for.
