Fields of Fire came on my mad car playlist (mostly downloaded through Limewire many moons ago. What a song. My son, who is a proper guitarist, asked a while back if I'd ever heard any Big Country and I realised in that moment that I'd failed as a father!I must‘ve seen them over a dozen times over the years, before they split up.
Some of the smaller gigs where just electric - the Academy at Manchester Uni immediately springs to mind. The place was packed full of pissed Scots and it was more like a party than a gig.
I went to the last gig they did, on
the Farewell Tour, at the Town and Country in Leeds and the audience was openly weeping when they went off at the end.
No one ever knew what Adamson was going through, as he hid it so well.
Massively underrated, both as a band and as musicians.
First gig was Dr Feelgood at the Arcadia, Portrush. John Cooper Clarke was the support. Coincidentally, he was on Would I lie To You last night. Still love Dr Feelgood despite the damage to my ears! ?My first ever gig at Erics lol
Don't think anyone who had heard Stuart Adamson would ever underrate him. This is the soundtrack of my courtship (35 years this year)
First saw them at Larks in the Park - Sefton Park in 1983.
They just blew the place away and that it was it for me.
What a show they put on! They started a song (Ulster Hall) but we were all singing "Uh, oh where did that feeling go". They stopped mid-song and played Chance! Place went mad. They knew who they were playing for. Fantastic band!!!
