Inspired by Trash Theory's recent video on YouTube about the genre I'd say is my favourite (Emo) I've made a list and I'm making an effort to go through the big hitters from the scene.
Jawbreaker are one of the first I've gone in on. Its a good start.
I'll have to check them out.Great band - and the documentary 'Don't Break Down' is a great watch
I actually prefer their spin off band 'Jets to Brazil' - Their debut 'Orange Rhyming Dictionary' is a stone cold classic
Been on a Weezer kick myself this week (Well, everything up to Maladroit - everything else can get right in the bin)
This is a great video about the loving and eventually hating Weezer
Not usually a fan of the 1975, but a fan of this
If you ever want a conversation about 90's/early 00's emo/post hardcore then I'm here for you! All of that stuff is absolutely in my wheelhouseI'll have to check them out.
I've gone back to The Descendents and Sunny Day Real Estate so far but Jawbreaker are definitely the first that have stuck.
They definitely go for the same source material as Green Day, stuff like Jinx Removing could have Billie Joe over the instrumentation and with a more vibrant production job thats a Green Day tune.
Not even the White album? It depends on the day you ask me if that has the 3rd place spot over the Green album.
I even like Van Weezer but that is definitely a good way behind the big hitters.

Here's my 'must listen' set of Emo-ish albums from that period
Sensefield - Building
Elliott - False Cathedrals
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
Handsome - S/T
The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
Park - It Won't Snow Where You're Going
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
I've only sporadically dipped into Weezer albums really since Make Believe - I know they still come up with the odd corker (Pork and Beans) but I've lost faith in them TBH
Honestly that White album is worth a listen its proper classic Weezer.
Elliott and early Jimmy Eat World are on the list.
My personal favourite Emo album of all time is Something to Write Home About so I'll be going in on the rest of The Get Up Kids back catalogue.

have you listened to Current?
they were around kind-of post (and) hardcore but just pre the midwest explosion. So they're somewhere in the middle
