When do you think you'll be able to retire from paid work?

I chucked it in last September at 60. I have a small "final salary" pension that kicks in at 65, state pension at 67. Since before covid I had been piling as much as I could into a private pension scheme. I will use that up over the next 4 years or so.

Wife's pension arrangements are better than mine and she plans to carry on working for the next few years anyway (this is a great life hack).

Cannot foresee any circumstances in which I would willingly go back ...

I have no private pension and I've been gone too long for a state one so I'll be living off savings and investments. If the world doesn't implode killing my investments - and that's a huge if right now - I should be fine by 60. Maybe 55 but 60 would suit me fine, health permitting.

…I was very lucky to be one of the ‘final salary generation’ so was able to retire on a pleasant Civil Service pension and lump sum at 59. I genuinely feel for those who’ll have to work until state pension age.
BP bought out the FPS schemes of their staff employees. Lads retired at 55 with 7 figures in their pension pot and many pots started with a 2. I was only a contractor there unfortunately
