When do you think you'll be able to retire from paid work?

My state pension age is 67. I have a few small private pensions which ain't gonna do much so I won't be able to rely on them. I don't think that the state pension is going to be up to much by then alas.

However I do a brain only job and am one of the few experienced people in a very specific work field that means I can work as long as I want and probably at whatever hours I want if I so wish at pensionable age if I retain my marbles. So it's realistically a probably never.

I don't know how old you are, but for anyone say mid-40s and below, I would recommend planning for life without a state pension.

I’m now closing on 64 and have always planned that way. If I get to 66 the SP will pay the monthly bills (non-food). Unfortunately the wrecked body will not allow me to take advantage of this

I’ve another 6 years to go, but only started paying into a pension scheme about 9 years ago, it won’t be much, but it’ll help to keep the lights on.

I think I've got 140 years left and then I might go part time as it'll be difficult aged 185 to have the same enthusiasm

This is kind of my attitude to it. Saving as much extra as you can in the scheme for the next 6 years will make a significant difference ...

I'm fortunate in that my employment will allow me to retire at 60 with a close to 2/3 final salary pension, so long as rules don't change again in the next 15 years.

With a couple of investments ongoing will be close to current salary for however long i have post-60, this is a real luxury in the modern UK workplace so feel very lucky.

Have you not read the last four pages of this thread? It has been an interesting read; lots of different answers, and lots of different circumstances. Mostly apolitical so far, and that has been a refreshing change.

Did it 2 years ago at 61 and 2/3’s. Never chased the posh property, so have the cash to live comfortably. State pension in 2.5 years to supplement. Liver is suffering like
