when we’ve gone down

Since I'm watching my weight, I shall have a low-calorie drink to commiserate our downfall...

I will be devastated. I'll find the idea of Everton FC being a lower league club and in the same division as the likes of Rotherham and Bristol City hard to get my head around.

Let's not forget that we are the only fanbase, other than the Gunners, not to have experienced a single relegation since George VI was on the throne.

As daft as it sounds given that it's only sport at the end of the day, I imagine that I'll go through all the stages of grief, from denial all the way through to acceptance. It will be a truly dire summer.

But ultimately I will support Everton FC no matter what and I have renewed my season ticket already.

It will be akin to being dumped by the love of my life. It will take me a long time to get over it.

Leeds and Leicester are excellent clubs with really good histories, but Everton FC is different. No Everton fan under the age of about 80 years old remembers us in the lower divisions.

Ultimately, though, I will be back at Goodison supporting our players in August/September no matter what. We're Blues - it's what we do. My season ticket has already been renewed. That's if there is still a club to support post-relegation, of course.

Whether we stay up or get relegated it means the same in that we haven't won anything for years and years. Not being relegated for years doesn't really qualify us for a prize in my book.

Feels like we've been constantly battling relegation for at least 2 seasons now and declining for much longer so I've decided that I would like to go back to just enjoying match day with at least some hope of putting on a performance and winning more than losing. If that is in a lower league for a while then so be it.

Regardless I now cannot wait for a few weeks of not thinking about Everton after Sunday, or more likely after Monday, when the euphoria or disappointment has subsided.

Season tickets purchased months ago so where ever we are , i'll be there too!

If we should go down, then

I will probably stay away from here for a few days to let the hysteria die away.

Then I will start, for the first time, to look seriously at each club in the championship.

After that I think we will have a busy summer with both incomings and outgoings during the summer.

By July, I will be looking forward to the new season and will have a passing interest in the Premiership.

Other than that I expect life will be normal.
