Where is Mike Lyons these days?

Dark days maybe don't remember last day relegation battles do you?
Just had a look at our league placings during his playing career.
Third, two fourths, 3 other top tens, five outside, lowest finish 19th., one place above the relegation zone ; plus near misses in cups. We played some good stuff interspersed with dross.

True. Difficulty was that very recent memory of real legends made critical comparison too easy. Labone he wasn't, but he was a warrior.

Like I said, very unlucky not to win a medal or 2 with us.

Stayed in Scarborough just outside Perth on holiday a few years ago and Mick was drinking in the bar of the hotel. It was a great honour to talk to one of my earliest heroes and he was a real gentlemen. Made my holiday !

I loved Mick in the mid seventies......one of the greatest Evertonians ever.

And versatile enough to play as centre half or centre forward.

Scored the bravest goal I have ever seen......diving in among the boots of the Leeds defenders down the Park End one day.

He used to run a sunday league team called Malpas which was the name of the road he lived in. I played for the U13's in 1974! He was actually playing in Evertons first by then. It was weird because he was always on the touchline on Sunday morns the day after he'd played for the Blues. You wouldnt see it now. Top bloke and top Evertonian!

This is the problem. The vast majority of those finishes in the mid to late 70s would be regarded as good seasons nowadays. The thing is, LFC were winning everything in sight at that time unfortunately, which made life pretty unbearable if you were a Blue. I think that's why people refer to them as dark days.

What a royal blue hero he was Big Mick, the goal were Norman "bites yer legs" Hunter nearly took his head off,I know that happened as there was a full page action shot in the next home games programme,I lost count of the times his jersey would be covered in blood(royal blue of course),probably the unluckiest fella to ever wear our colours IMHO,missed out on the 1970 championship, made his debut 1971 and left in 1983 I think and of course the barren wait ended at Wembley in 1984,also missed the famous Andy King game through injury,I remember seeing him crying his eyes out outside Elland Road after Lampards winner in the semi final replay,I saw him as he must have been over from Oz 2/3 years back at a ressies game at Haig Avenue,Southport, and managed to shake his hand and thank him,not the greatest of players but was one of us on the pitch, and for that he will always be a hero to me.:)

My brother played for them round about the same time, a left winger, Graeme Davies

Great Blue! Used to see him at Mass in Lydiate when I was a kid but never dared say hello. My son worked in Perth for a while last year and I was hoping he would ask for a try with Mick's team but he could not get there easily without a car! Best picture ever was his face when he equalised against Villa at OT in 2nd replay of league cup final 1977....... Last kick of the game. We still mucked it up in extra time!!! Posters whose favourite player was Tery Darracott might wish to comment!!!!

I did an interview with Mick last year when he was over for the Arsenal game. Like a fellow poster put earlier, he's in Australia. His last visit was when we played Kiev at home in the Europa league as his visit coincided with his mother's 90th birthday.
He was devastated he couldn't get back to Andy King's funeral earlier this year. They were very, very good mates.
Surprisingly Mick doesn't swear, and I remember Joe Royle saying to me once that Mick should have been a priest.
A fabulous guy and Evertonian. Eleven players like him would have won us the league.
