Where is Mike Lyons these days?

I met him after the Carsley derby. He came in the Tom Frost with Bailey and Degsy. Bailey was hammered so I got him a glass of water. Me and my brother jumped in Degsys taxi and went with them to Western Approaches pub where Rooneys mum was. Mountfield still owes me a fiver for that taxi.

My brother played for them round about the same time, a left winger, Graeme Davies
Can't say I remember that name Tommy. He probs wouldnt remember my name either. My name is Stu Atherton and I played on the right wing. I grew up in Croxteth before moving to Walton when I was 16. Great days. We used to play at Eaton Road in the West Derby league against the likes of Stoneycroft and Pinehurst. I remember in winter training in the School hall of Croxteth Comp. Micky would makes us do shuttle runs etc. I used to knock at the door of his house to ask him what time we were training etc. One day his sister answered and I asked to speak to him and she said he was on the bog! So I waited until he finished! Ridiculous that I was waiting for an Everton player whilst he was answering a call of nature. Great bloke though.

Sorry the Tom Frost was another game when I was with my dad. It was the old blue kipper pub after Carsley, then western approaches.

Like I said, very unlucky not to win a medal or 2 with us.

He should have had a League Championship winners medal in 1975.

Forty years later I am still baffled at how we lost that when we had daylight between us and the second placed team with three games remaining.....and in an era when it was only two points for a win.

We lived on the estate opposite the English Elec as it was. Just realised you're more my age, Graeme a few years younger. Mick used to have a kickabout with Dave Jones on Crocky comp field now and again. Jinkin' Jim was also often at the Sunday League games. Can you imagine the primadonnas of today getting involved, would probably want a retainer

Great Blue! Used to see him at Mass in Lydiate when I was a kid but never dared say hello. My son worked in Perth for a while last year and I was hoping he would ask for a try with Mick's team but he could not get there easily without a car! Best picture ever was his face when he equalised against Villa at OT in 2nd replay of league cup final 1977....... Last kick of the game. We still mucked it up in extra time!!! Posters whose favourite player was Tery Darracott might wish to comment!!!!
See two posts above your original post allez to tell you the regard I hold Big Mick in mate:)

I know that estate. When we moved to Walton I still used to come down and see my mates (who I grew up with in Redruth Rd). I'd get off the 19 bus and cut through the estate and across Croxteth Comp school field to get over to Redruth Rd etc.
And yes, imagine seeing Barkley and Rom having a kick about on a school field. Not!!

I remember buying the Daily Mirror one saturday to find the back page saying we were being bought out by The Sultan of Brunei. It was supposed to have something to do with Mick as he was coaching a team over there..
