Think there’s a distinction between best actors and actors who you might like watching but are often basically the same characters.
Brad Pitt or Ray Winston being examples of the latter.
I think Robert Downey Jnr (when not being Ironman) is a great actor and plays vastly different roles throughout his career.
I love Clint Eastwood or Denzil Washington films but often there’s not much distinction between their characters imo.

Haven’t seen enough of his films but Daniel Day Lewis is widely regarded as ‘The Best Actor’ isn’t he (albeit retired iirc), got 3 Oscar’s to boot.
Certainly put in a good turn for There Will be Blood, very unique character etc.
Bill the Butcher / Butcher Bill what ever he played in GoNY was a good performance too.

Looked through the thread again, and we all forgot about Alan Rickman. Forever typecast as a villain thanks to his seminal role in Die Hard, but excelled whenever he had the opportunity to play something more complex, like de Valera in Michael Collins.

Basil Rathbone was part of the famous Liverpool Rathbone family. Served in the Liverpool Scottish regiment during WW1 and won the MC. Also, was twice the British Army fencing championship, and taught Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power to fence.
