Well can't be arsed arguing with you over England. Supporting England is not like Supporting Everton. It's like following the English cricket team, or watching them play rugby. I have a sense of pride and I couldn't give two hoots what you or your PC non nationals think.

Not even sure where you're going with that bit

As for the other English teams you mention, also not arsed. Neither am I bothered about whether an Englishman wins in F1 or a Brit wins Wimbledon or the UK relay team gets a medal at the Olympics or the UK wins the Eurovision Song contest, etc. It won't make me feel any more or less proud of being English. I'm quite happy for you if supporting those teams / individuals means something to you.

But you don't give two hoots, as evidenced by all your posts in this thread.

I'll never give up defending my nation.

Do you know what you can go to any nation in the world and they are all proud of where they come from. Apart from English people. Scared to be English.

Personally I think it's a trend, like girls being lesbians at Uni.

I spoke to some lads where I used to work, kopites they were, and they preferred Spain than England. It's pathetic. I asked why, and it's because they don't want their players getting injured playing for England, to which I pointed out that more Liverpool players play for Spain than England.

It's just a wealth of non-excuses, because they are following what the next person has said. Me, I prefer to keep a singular line of opinion rather than group it with what that lad over there thinks.

Suppose it all comes down to education, and not media hype, isolated incidents and trend following.

I'm certainly not attacking England, nor am I ashamed to be English or following any trends or suffering from a lack of education. It seems to me you're looking for some reason to denigrate those who disagree with you, even distorting their views to mean more than they've actually said. Whereas some people just have a different opinion to you. Your comments are the equivalent of somebody accusing you of having been brain-washed by reading the Daily Mail & attending too many right-wing meetings : in other words, not entirely merited by the content of your posts.

In football I hope they get snotted, in life, I will fight for their survival

Fair enough. It seems to me that some of this debate touches on how we perceive ourselves & our sense of identity. Since joining the EU some people do apparently feel more European, some feel more British whilst others feel that with more power going to Brussels they relate more strongly to their sense of English/Scottish/Welshness etc. respectively. Personally I see myself as English, but don't really relate to the idea of British too well. I feel Scotland is as much a foreign country to me as France is - just another European country. But I don't really relate any of that to sport.

I have to agree .
An American guitar forum I frequent , and may I say it's a wonderful forum , is full of guys from all over the world , and the Americans tend to call us ' Brits ' .
Without any negativity towards our neighboring countries , I have to say that I much prefer to look upon myself as English .

Our country has different history , traditions , language and culture to that of our British cousins , and I'm sure it's important for each to keep it's own identity some what .

Some may feel more European, but there would be a massive support for not going to the Euro if that happened.

You should relate it to sport if you can because it's the only time this country is united, through Sport.

I don't care about the England football team. I don't care about England as a country. I don't care about other people in it any more than someone of any of nationality.

It is not "my" country. I don't care about its history, both good and bad.

I'm English because i was born here and i live here. Thats it. It wouldn't bother me if tomorrow we became a part of France. Its just a bit of land.

People are people no matter where they are from.

As long as it doesn't negatively affect me, my friends or my family i don't care.

Would you be bothered if Everton moved to another part of the country?

Yes and no.

To me our home is Goodison Park in Liverpool, and to leave that will suck. (Leaving all Kirkby discussion aside of course).

But if they have to they do and i will still support them and view them exactly the same no matter where they play.

Makes no difference to me where our home is if its not at Goodison Park.

Ok.

I think this thread has been concluded now.

Those who don't want to recognise being English is there right, of course. Just get bored of the We Hate England thread that appears when England play.
