who is/are the rotten core of the squad?

Gomes
Keane
Holgate
I agree Gomes and Keane should perhaps move on, but it's incredibly harsh to call them the 'rotten core'

I believe Keane is genuinely trying very hard but has previously spoken about his mental health issues and believe he's low on confidence. He could maybe benefit from going to a smaller club

Gomes had a really bad injury and hasn't been quite the same since. But again, harsh to call him 'rotten'

Think Holgate is OK as a squad player and don't believe he has a bad attitude

I don't think there is a rotten core. Doesn't seem to be any players who leak stuff to the press or have attitude issues. They're just not good enough ability wise. Players like Keane, Gomes and Davies don't have the pace to keep up with what the PL demands and is the reason why we struggle. The rotten part is that we are constrained in being able to get rid of them and bring in players to replace them.

As an explanation of what went wrong last season, this is worse than useless. Alli wasn't getting any pitch time to speak of, Godfrey was injured for long periods when we were struggling most, and DCL was getting little service - not sure that any top flight team created fewer chances than us last season.
I cant even begin to make excuses for any of those three.

If we got shut of them and brought in replacements we'd either be the same or better.

Dunno about rotten but the players that just aren't up to standard (which is pretty well the lot of them but in particular) are keane, gomes, allan, davies, rondon, coleman and godfrey.

serious question.

arteta identified them at arsenal and got rid. ten hag seems to be making headway at manu.

who are the 1-3 rotten eggs who need to go at all costs before we can start rebuilding?
There are rotten eggs in terms of dissenters with a poor attitude.

It's just a squad full of poor/average footballers that have been ol thrown together by about 7-8 different people without any thought about cohesion.

I think 100% the rotten “core” is Moshiri.

There’s no smoke without fire and the more the rumours you hear of him meddling the more you have the think creates toxicity around the place.

Bad performance usually spreads through the hierarchy.

Player wise, I think they’ve probably shifted a lot of the rotten core now. The only issue we now have is players who don’t necessarily have the ability who are still around like Gomes, and then the rest of them who simply put, aren’t good enough.

But I only think the main issue is right at the top nowadays.

I cant even begin to make excuses for any of those three.

Alli - I believe should be given more time to see if he can recapture pre-Mourinho form, but an issue potentially if and when appearances trigger big payments

DCL - is perhaps overrated in that he hasn't been around long enough to perform season after season. Coming back from injury and with less service I don't believe we should be completely hanging our hat on him. It was Ancelotti who got the best out of him. Need another striker in there too to replace Richarlison

Godfrey - is quite good isn't he? Struggled with some injuries and was playing in a defence with others around him shot of confidence or advancing in years (in Coleman's case)

Others:

Davies - home grown but maybe not quite the quality level to be a first team regular in what we aspire to, OK as a squad player I guess. Could be the time for him to move to a smaller club where he's a regular starter

Doucoure and Allan - are actually pretty good aren't they?

Rondon - advancing in years, wasn't fit when we signed him, associated with Benitez. If back to full fitness could be OK though as backup striker (3rd choice), rather than paying to get someone new

Doucoure and Allan, both awful but as a pair terrible
But are they so bad that they wouldn't get into at least half the teams in the premier league?

To say they're 'awful' football players is a strong statement

I thought we signed Doucoure because he'd been good at Watford. And Allan we likely wouldn't have got without the Ancelotti link - Ancelotti clearly rated him. I remember the bounce when the 2 arrived

People are crying out for new players now. If we make new signings, paying for players who have done well at other clubs, will it then just be a year or so before the fans start saying they're 'awful' as well?

It's like some fans are trying to drag the players down as far as possible and it possibly contributes to this wider negative culture that could be a part of the erosion of confidence...
