Who should replace Frank Lampard?

Ancelotti was a mistake without even getting into whether he did well here. If the guy you being in bins you off after a season and a half without doing anything of not results wise that's a bad hire.
The mistake we made when hiring Ancelotti was agreeing to a clause in the contract that allowed him to walk away for nothing if Real came calling.

That's it. That was the entire mistake.

Ancelotti made short-term moves to solidify the team, and got some decent results as a consequence. Had he stayed for longer I have no doubt he would have built on the modest achievement of his first season with us, using the stability of mid-table safety as a platform from which to build. I would happily have accepted a couple more seasons of finishing between 12th and 9th if they included tactical masterclasses like the wins over Spurs and the RS at the same time as seeing the squad rebuilt.

There's no doubt in my mind that had we somehow kept Ancelotti for five years we'd win a cup or possibly two during that time and be back in the top eight with consistency. His track record is REALLY good.

I'm still annoyed about the manner of his departure, but it's simply immature to insist he was a bad manager for us when he clearly, statistically, demonstrably was a good manager.

Now on to more important things: @GrandOldTeam can we have thread bans for those who have, by voting for Gerrard, Benitez or Martinez, outed themselves as sleeper agents.

There should be a ‘None of the Above’ option.

I don’t particularly like him or his tactics at the moment, but we need to give him the January window to see if he can turn things round.

As am I, but taking my Evertonian glasses off I can't begrudge him moving back to a club he clearly loves, and less so when they're a club of Madrid's stature.

A team in disarray, with little money to spend, or a global player like Madrid. The fact we put a clause in his contract in the first place is our fault, and ours alone.

The flip side may have been that he'd not come without said clause, but hey ho - ifs and buts. Anyway, Carlo is probably the best manager we've ever had.

Not the best performing manager while here, but he's the greatest in terms of achievements and stature. If we'd have kept him, I believe he'd have succeded.

We actually got 5 million for compensation off Real.

Best 5 million they have spent that.

Agreed ?% sir. You and I share the same POV here.

Sean Dyche tells Jim White if Farhad Moshiri offered him Everton job

Sean Dyche has told Jim White that he was never offered the Everton job despite all the reports in the media saying that he did.

The then Burnley manager was linked with the vacant managerial seat at Goodison Park after Rafael Benitez was sacked.

However, he has gone on record to state that Farhad Moshiri never got in touch with him but he does like the culture of the Toffees

He gets us, he is 100% after it

You're probably right on the 100% after it bit.
The first bit could just be mouthing the buzzwords

I'm genuinely not sure anyone can get a consistent tune out of this squad. The attack is a Championship attack and that's not going to change.
