Who will England face in the final?

France's best player got injured. One would imagine they would have won their group had he not. That said, you can only beat what's in front of you, but the draw and circumstances that have led to this path have been kind. A good side would take advantage of that.

Are England a good side? We will soon find out.
I don’t for a second think England will win the title but any side that wins it deserves it IMO.

France should possibly have beaten Poland with or without Mbappe

Oh, I won't begrudge England a win. But as an Irishman, you'll forgive me for finding it easier if England play superbly, beat whatever is put up in front of them, and do it all in style.

For context: I hate Man United. I really did not want to see them win the Champions League in 1999. But they beat Inter, Juventus, and Bayern Munich to win it having eliminated Barcelona in the groups. I had to begrudgingly accept they won it the hard way and were worthy European champions.

Did you not hear Southgate?
We’d be walking this tournament if Kalvin Phillips wasn’t injured.

Did you not watch last night, we were both poor and very lucky..

Unless of course youre on a wind up..

We were poor, we weren’t lucky. Scored two good goals.

Germany had to rely on a Danish goal being harshly ruled out, before being gifted an incredibly soft penalty. Very lucky.

France relied on an own goal to beat Belgium. Don’t believe they’ve scored a goal from open play this tournament. Very lucky.

Spain are the only big side who are really playing well. Austria have looked good. Everyone else is scraping by.

Switzerland are playing very well... i expect them to win against engerland. Happy if they dont, i just cant see after the tactics GS is employing how we will. Hes.not very pragmatic, and seems to be employing tactics similar to Graham Taylor.

Like i say though happy to be proven wrong

I expect England to see off the hipster's choice, Switzerland. England are deeply over-rated and deeply uninspiring, but they do have huge resources (financial and demographic) and have two world-class players who, despite everything, still make a difference in the big moments. England might be tedious - and a bit of a psychodrama - but they are still very hard to beat. And this strikes me as the kind of game where the Swiss - who have never been in a semi-final - start to look down and somebody like Yann Sommer has a stinker.

I expect to see England in Berlin. Ronald Koeman doesn't have it in him to get the Dutch to a final - I'm fairly sure the Romanians or Turks would see him off before even England - and if Austria are the last bastion of the hipster ABEs, well, we've been left down badly this time around.

It'll take an über stodgy France (playing well), a Spanish side that has a cutting edge, or an inspired host nation to stop them. I reckon the odds of stopping them fall the further along that last sentence you travel.

Switzerland will be the first "proper" test... or so I was telling myself until yesterday.

Having seen Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, Croatia turn in shocking performances in some of their games, it does put some perspective on England being jarg.

The only sides who've taken a thumping are Scotland and Georgia, although the latter actually went for it against Spain and were entertaining.

These smaller stature nations are
holding back and why shouldn't they? Slovenia went to pens, Romania won their group, Slovakia were minutes from a huge upset.

I imagine now they're disappearing, the quality may potentially rise again.

I actually expect Switzerland to win on Saturday, but I think it'll suit England playing a side who play football.

France were welcome to win their group and enter our half of the draw

Another measure of Southgate’s luck that France ended up finishing 2nd and being on the other side of the draw. In 2018 when we finished 2nd we ended up being rewarded with Colombia, Sweden and Croatia in the knockouts.

Last Euros, an Italy side that failed to qualify for the two tournaments either side of it “stopped” them. Never underestimate our Gareth.

Oh, I'm not saying they can't be stopped, Mike. I'm simply saying if they are stopped it will be in Berlin in the final. We've all done this dance before.

Switzerland have been decent, but I think England will scrape past them.

I've enjoyed the competition, when I thought I wouldn't. Interesting to see Georgia and Slovakia etc showing well. I probably biased but Spain have looked far away the best team.
