'the really bad dream team'
Yep just the Evertonians leftLawrence, Bergera, Kevin Reeves (Head Scout) annd Graeame JOnes all left with Roberto
That's the way the U21's play. Unsworth likes to play football, but they work hard, press the opposition and are defensively sound. I remarked after the last U21 game at Goodison it was like night and day between them and the first team. Last Sunday wasn't a surprise, except for the fact that they only had 2 days to work with the players. It was a question rather than a statement It's been commonly said, and obviously perfectly sensible, that youth teams play the same way as the senior team, so there must be coherence of approach throughout the club. Suffice to say, Martinez seemed to lose the club completely, and I have no idea the role Unsworth and Ferguson played in that, but it was remarkable how much more effort the players seemed to put in on Sunday. Norwich were poor, but the transformation was incredible.
Unsy has sometimes shown a degree of coaching flexibility that our previous coaching regime never had e.g. going 3-0 down to Liverpool in the u21 game. At 3-1 half time he came out with a three central defenders system and an attacking intent that secured a draw and could have won it. Sheedy too likes to get his team's working hard and pressing opposition up the pitch. Best examples where in the Dallas Cup win , where with a largely 2nd squad, their team tactics and togetherness proved successful. But as well as the coaches, the players at U21/u18!show a desire and energy missing at 1st team level. But that then brings us around to what the old coaching team created. That's the way the U21's play. One thing I'd love from our next manager is him to have a useful assistant manager.
Both Jones and Round before him seemed to be (albeit from my speculative vantage point) complete yes men.
I would have G.Neville as assistant manager (not a Yes Man). Unsworth is doing a great job with the youth to team and should continue that process till he is ready to step into a possible manager role.
I think G.N is great tactician, understands when you need a plan B, and could feed through the youngsters to the first team.
I think it,s vital that we have an assistant manager with those qualities because the danger is we hire a manager who cannot see past his own football philosophy e.g. Koeman.
why on earth would you want to give gary neville more of a role than unsworth, he has in no way shown hes a better coach/manager than unsworth. he should go back to sky.
Agree you can't help but be impressed by the work being done at U18 & U21 level. As you say that Liverpool game sticks in the mind because of the way he changed it around. Given the energy levels last Sunday and those shown by the U21's you have to lay the blame for the lack of it onto Martinez.Unsy has sometimes shown a degree of coaching flexibility that our previous coaching regime never had e.g. going 3-0 down to Liverpool in the u21 game. Aren't all assistant managers yes men?
Of course, but you'd like to think they can influence the manager, perhaps offer some degree of opposition now and then to ensure only the best ideas come forward. Alan Irvine seemed to bring something of his own to the table, whereas Round and Jones seemed to be there only to echo the manager.
Two heads are only better than one when one doesn't exist just to inflate the other.
I get what you're saying but surely we dont know what people are like behind closed doors. Someone can come across as passive in front of the cameras but behind the scenes give it out.
A united front in front of the children type of thing.
I did say originally that I was being speculative, friend.
Hi mick.Ok sorry.
