personally I'd put Ferguson in as stand-in , get a bit of a bump and perhaps 3-6 points in the next few weeks. Then bring in a permanent manager which could get us another 'new manager bump' that might be enough to keep us up this season.
Yes, things are that bad!
In the middle of a transfer window.. giving Dunc two games is sat and Feb as there an international break

I don't want Mourinho, and I don't think he would ever come to us anyway.

That being said, if you want an open look into players who are shizenhouses, lazy, or incompetent Jose would bring that front be and centre.

Can we just rent him for a week and have him do a team report?

Rooney too soon.. managed 60 games
Give it Dunc… managed 4 games
One of those is an internal hire and not a longterm commitment to whats also basically an unproven commodity.

The argument for Dunc is an argument in patience and hiring a DoF before a manager and having twice the options come summer under a hopeful directors stewardship rather than Moshiri's.

Agreed completely on the fact the boards priority should be hiring a DoF. Considering the timeline they should make the time (the rest of the season if need be) to get the proper person. Any manager appointment without a DoF is repeating the mistakes and would make me worried.

In terms of options I dont think Luis Campos is likely. His pedigree will warrant I think a larger profile club. But you make the call. Dan Ashworth of Brighton who I thought got the Magpies job would be a great hire (especially in any attempt of hiring Potter). And I think Stuart Webber at Norwich and Phil Giles at Brentford deserve a phone call. Along with maybe academy director Jason Wilcox at Manchester City.

Agreed, Luis Campos could probably go anywhere. Our only chance would be throwing top money at him. There's other good options too like you say.

I'm not to sure about a new dof, if he and a new manager don't get on very well it can cause problems, look at Benitez and Brands for example.

That's happened because the DOF wasn't given the chance to recruit the manager. Brands was against hiring Ancelotti and Benitez, so naturally there was friction.

Hiring the right DOF and giving them the power to bring in their choice will show strategy - which we haven't had in years.

On top of that, the DOF model works. There isn't a single successful club in recent years who haven't had someone in that type of role.

Hire Rooney. Cares about the team. Doesn't need the money to cause him to be out the door to a better job if he succeeds. If he sucks, been there plenty of times anyway.

Thinking long-term, I want Evertonians in charge, taking us from Goodison to BMD. I just can't stomach another outsider.
For this reason I’d ask Rooney if he was interested.
If not though I’d be happy with another young manager and Frank Lampard commands respect as he is a winner.

Martinez would be a stupid idea and I hope they’ve learned their lesson with Benitez.

Rooney….

Managed more games than Ferguson
Won more games than Ferguson
Played under more and better managers than Ferguson
Won more Silverware than Ferguson
More International caps than Ferguson
Supported Everton longer

Comes from an Evertonian family
Is this the new “he knows the city?” Being a top super blue gets you the Everton job

But but but it’s to early… joke ain’t it

Better player then Ferguson as well

Nah if I was a manager at a team that is full of good young players with a good structure that is constantly improving. I wouldn't risk losing that for Everton. Not at the moment.

If he continues to do well, a team knocking on the top 4 will take a chance on him. Potentially Rodgers successor if he moves elsewhere.

Leicester are only in 10th... they're not knocking on the top 4. And they're certainly not a bigger club than Everton.

And you might not make that decision, but Everton is a huge opportunity and like I said a massive step up from Brighton.

We also have better players than Brighton, with a squad much higher in value. The problem is Benitez wasn't getting the best out of them, plus the worst injury crisis in decades.
