I don't give Rooney a pass. He wouldn't be my pick. I think he's doing brilliantly at Derby, all things considered, but I agree that it might be too early to judge.

I'm able to judge on Kovac because yes, I think there is evidence there that right at this moment, he wouldn't really fit.

Out of curiosity, how many times did you watch Kovac's teams previously, and why would you be so against Rooney?
You do give him a pass - and the fact you have said he’s the best we’ve been linked with I’d say means that pass is quite a strong one.

I watched Bayern demolish Spurs in the 7-2 game and a few others.

I’ve also seen Rooneys two seperate runs of one win in 15 last season.

The only basics we need are at set plays.

Every other area we need a plan and quality. We need to be brave on the ball and learn how to press. Ferguson won't bring us any of those things.

I'm not picking on your post specifically, but we need to get away from this sort of agricultural approach and this mythical Everton way. No good Everton team of the past just set to hoof it away as soon as we get it. Thats not football, its a lack of courage to play.

I saw turgid Benitez ball yesterday. Nothing fresh, nothing innovative, nothing impressive, just the same old rubbish
Think you're setting your sights too high with 'good', mate. Although we have a smattering of decent players, with a lot of them, the longer they're in possession the more chance they'll lose it, or at least the opposition will have more time to get set while our bloke takes an eternity to play a sideways pass. Don't think anyone could coach football into lots of them them at all , and certainly not mid season. Consistent selection of the best players, simple plan, and hard work is the way to go till the end of the season, in my view. Changing playing staff and getting decent football into them will have to wait till then.

Effort wasn't there last season at times tbf but we had a proper manager in charge.

This year we have no plan and can only get out of this with a clear way of playing. Effort will always be there under Ferguson but yesterday showed he is tactically inept.
See I don't know if I agree really.

I think they always tried. I think Ancelotti didn't set them up right in some matches and they ran out of ideas and then yeah maybe the effort dipped, but we were playing in a season that was so weird.

I'm not saying these players can't be blamed, but I think 'effort' is the least of the worries. The main worry is they're just not coached well, not that good and yeah, in the case of yesterday and most of this season, set up terribly.

yep. just fight and scrap the way to safety which is why it maybe duncan

I was at that Bayern v Spurs game. It was an incredible performance, Spurs were terrible. Kovac was sacked a month later as they were awful in the league. Did you watch his Frankfurt side at all? They were definitely good when he left btw but if he'd not managed Bayern (where he was sacked) would you want him at all?

I think Rooney, out of the names we have currently linked to us (Cannavaro and Lampard) wouldn't be a bad pick. But he wouldn't be my pick.

Johnson is quality but 20m plus I assume is out of our range right now

The championship is where we should always look but we've lost run of ourselves in the transfer market

That and continuity, we’ve a mismatched squad with players picked by how many managers - seven! We’ve thrown it all together to create this mess. Yet here we are again, looking for another new manager, who guess what will probably want there own players……rinse and repeat.

That soul searching is maybe for the summer, right now we need points.

We are basically Burnley this year. Maybe with a few more goals. Worse part is that its by choice and Benitez wanted this and people actually lapped it up at the start.

Intensity is still important. Again we only played with intensity in the second half. Cant remember the last time we had a fast start. That shows the lack of coaching.

Yeah intensity and effort is definitely important but at the end of the day it's the manager's job to instil that

Based on yesterday, Ferguson will provide the same as we got under Benitez. I'm pretty shocked by what he served up and expected fresh ideas. Was he not watching on the bench?

I cant think of many worse options. Yesterday was an absolute load of rubbish. He sent a team out to run around and hoof it. Its 2022 and we are a club stuck in the footballing middle ages.

Genuinely what were you expecting? Barca iniesta and xavi levels?
We're crap. We play crap football. The best you're going to get is in your face football. Seriously, there is not a good team in there. The only thing i would have said about yest was Gordon. I dont think he should have been on the bench. But christ we're not talking Ronaldo levels.
Everton have assembled a dross squad who are mid table at best. Benitez managed to make us worse than we actualy are.
I expected very little other than up for it a bit more. Dont expect anything from 90% of this squad. You'll just be disapointed.

It’s just totally different levels though in experience isn’t it.

Kovac with all that experience of big games, big players , pressure situations - and Rooney who had a dreadful run at Derby end of last season, and yes - massive kudos to him- he has done well this season…but under no pressure and zero expectations. He’d be straight into a pressure cooker here.

Rooney wouldn’t be in the running if he hadn’t the affinity with us, hasn’t done his coaching badges and I just think with this appointment - which is crucial to our existence imo - that the board need to play the percentages and get someone with the best cv possible to keep us up.

Hard to say because I assume he must have been good to get Bayern to take him from Frankfurt.

So if you are saying would I have taken him straight after Frankfurt, the fact that Bayern did so answers your question.
