Who did people genuinely think we would attract? Look at the list. Lampard and Rooney. This was always how this would end up. Fans were turning their nose up at Mourinho ffs.

I'd turn my nose up at Mourinho because he's a dinosaur like Benitez. That's not to say we'll be lucky to get anyone want to manage us with any degree of pedigree.

We'll see a lot of this over the next week or so. Names not considered as yet will be linked - and even have substance to them.

Lampard is the only link I'd give credence to atm though.

He's available, knows the league, and a manager that could credibly be sold by the board as a long term solution.

If there was nothing to this I doubt Lampard and his people would have allowed this association to carry on.

Problem is when you're in a bad position in January with a bad team and you're limited in who you can attract. Newcastle, chocked full with money, appointed Eddie Howe ffs. Watford will get another no mark in. Norwich got Dean Smith who'd just been sacked from Villa. People mentioning Remi Garde and Bob Bradley, these were other mid season failures.

You're limited to either a left field choice from someone without the experience (like Rooney) or someone desperate to restore their reputation after failing somewhere (Lampard) or just someone with a pretty awful CV (Pereira).

Even the likes of Potter wouldn't touch us with a bargepole but would have last summer to follow on from Carlo.

Lampard in the circumstances makes the most sense out of a bad list.

I hope you are right. The ‘links’ to Pereira are scary. May as well just give up if he is appointed

That's what I'm saying mate, very stressful time. Still better than having Rafael though.
