Why are Europeans so relaxed about nudity?

I always see questions being asked about why Americans are so prudish but I think this question is very unfair. I think Europe is the real outlier here when it comes to the whole world. Europe seems way too relaxed about nudity, for my liking. For starters, women can't go topless in American beaches yet in Europe, it's the cultural norm here. Nudity is shown and sexuality is talked about a lot on the TV as well. Europeans love saying that Puritans were the early settlers in America hence for the difference in mentality but Puritans only made up 5% of our total ancestors who settled in America.

Not to mention, going sauna anywhere in Europe is a total experience to going sauna in America. Even bikinis are a big no-no in some parts of America.

What are your views on sexuality and nudity, and should it be toned down in public?
America has a whole host of festivals and events where public nudity is paraded. It also has the biggest and most widely normalised hardcore pornography industry in the entire world, fashions which place the emphasis on sexuality and a huge pageantry circuit built around the sexualisation of children.

Topless beaches are not the cultural norm throughout Europe. There are nudist beaches, mixed beaches where a topless woman won't raise too many eyebrows and many others where nudity is not considered the norm. There certainly aren't many beaches where a fella walking around with his schlong out are the norm.

And going fully nude in a mixed sex sauna is also not the established norm throughout the entirety of Europe.

Where are you from?

But you have to be mindful about children being around.
But then children often get to see titties more often than husbands! Besides - it is only something taboo and alluring because we teach them that by hiding things away and calling them private. Its social conditioning, not instinct. If you grew up seeing topless women casually in some places like in europe I'm pretty sure it would be no more sexualised than seeing somebody's head.

I remember showing a visitor around our school years back and he became hot under the collar at the very (very) short skirts some of the girls had taken to wearing. When he commented - along the lines of how do you concentrate on your job - my response was genuinely that I didn't notice. Its just what you're used to. About the only person who ever did notice and make a fuss was a rather elderly overweight deputy head mistress who we all thought was trying to desperately hang on to her own looks and didn't like the competition! lol

Firstly, being prudish goes hand in hand with following an organized religion, imo.

Secondly, the reason why sexuality is seen as taboo because we can't explicitly tell our children that "sex is bad". If we see violence on TV, we are able to tell the kids that "killing people is evil". But sex can never be a bad thing, so it's creates a huge moral dilemma. We have never been programmed to be overtly sexualized around children, it's something that doesn't happen. It's social conditioning, as you put it, for a good reason.

If you educated children that sex is a completely normal act, that us only done by adults, just like drinking beer or driving a car - that too is social conditioning - but doesn't require a religion.

I really need to reassess my mixed sauna etiquette!
