Don't we live longer
80 to 79. Longer but I wouldn't hinge a decision on that small of a difference. Canada is 82!

die less often as children
UK 25th; US 34th ... again not a huge difference but yes a win for the UK ... and yes Canada is ahead of both again.

and have less crime in the uk than the us?
Not going to look it up but almost certainly yes. The "war on drugs" inflates the US crime numbers but yeah this would be one for the UK. However it's also a lot easier to "feel safe" in the US than the UK. In the UK, barring living with the sheep, you are always going to be fairly crime adjacent. In the US it's easier to escape to the massive suburbs and things are still fairly segregated (which could be seen as a negative too). Pros and cons.

I felt safer in the US despite living in a city which had far higher crime rates than any UK city. You can easily go 10 years + living in such a city and never even drive through or even see from a distance any of the high crime areas which are responsible for the vast majority of the crime. It's a big place.

This is also a fairly significant negative in terms of judging a country by how equally it treats its citizens but a fairly significant positive if all you care about is your own well-being. That really sums up America in a nutshell actually.
