When the club says the fee asked for a player does not meet our valuation? Oh yeh who the hell is holding the Glass's Guide to decde on that. For example Arry felt the 2 Kyles were worth 11 mill is his judgement so far off. I don't think so. Some one at the club is messing things up. If we don't have the money why chase a player ouy of our reach?

How do they expect to sort transfers when the manager is on the other side of the bleeding world, he should be here to talk to potential signings. Is it left upto Elstone anf Bk? in which case I would consider it no wonder we can't sign players.

I feel sorry for them. They must be looking at the calender and wondering what they can pull off next to get past the last four days of this month and all of next month. I might email Ian Ross with some suggestions:

  • a rainbow coloured third kit
  • Bill Kenwright health scare story (what with the Kirkby excitement)
  • invite Paul McCartney onto the board as musical advisor
  • unveiling of next Turkish-German sensation as he graduates from Kindergarten
  • in depth coverage of August's world tour of Blackpool
That'll keep the pot boiling until at least mid-August.

He's already said August is always the most stressful time, was he preparing us?

In my opinion, people are still getting bent out of shape without looking around them at the other teams that're supposedly spending their way ahead of us!... City have spent massively, but then again, we all knew that was going to happen and to even compare our (or anyone else's) situation to theirs is a bit stupid really...

Sick of hearing of Villa, who have Villa managed to capture?! - Downing who's going to be out until almost Christmas!...

Fully funded by Barry's move to City to boot, so they haven't outspent anyone and after losing Laursen & Knight, I'd say they're significantly weaker than last season.

And Spurs?!;

A couple of kiddies from Sheff Utd that we rightly didn't allow ourselves to be held for ransom over (both for transfer fee and wages if we actually did speak to Naughton) and Harry's answer to all striking problems - Go get Crouchie to play with Defoe....

Even Arsenal have lost their biggest goal threat, look set to lose Toure any day now and have only brought in some Belgian defender that I've never heard of...

I know they've got a lot of players coming back from long lay-offs - but so do we and do you reckon their fans are more appeased by 'they'll be like new signings' than we are?!...

On paper at least : City & Spurs may have improved, but Villa & Arsenal are weaker. So as things stand, I'd say we're in comparatively as strong a position as we were last season - not on the verge of pulling a Newcastle!

Completely agree – a bit of optimism at last

We're not spending. We offloaded three senior squad members depleting an already threadbare squad, we've missed out on players that realistically were within our budget, and the only transfer story we're involved in at the moment is the sale of one of our best players to a rival down the road.

We should focus on ourselves.

Sorry Davek I'm not stalking you but calling Jacobsen, Castillo and VdM senior players is really stretching it. They were only senior in terms of age and not in terms of squad importance with less than 30 appearances between them last season.

I thought that was what squad players were all about, stepping in when they were required? Regardless of that, they were pulling down big wages and that lightens the financial burden. But still no reinforcements. Conservative estimate: we need at least 6 more bodies into that squad to cope with the domestic and European calender.

No-one can disagree that we need more bodies and with experience too although I expect another kid or two to come through this year. Baxter or Wallace perhaps. Rodders will play much more, as might Gosling particularly in the Europa.

I think we can get by with maybe 4 signings this window. Not ideal though.

I hope we don't sign anyone.

I'd rather see the youngsters come through than spending wads on Senor Big Pockets or Frankie Fancypants.*
