As I say - I'm a proud Englishman and will always support my country over anyone else.
I do sometimes wish I had a choice with Everton - but family roots and history mean me and my children will also have to follow us.
I think there has to be a connection to a team. Doesn't have to be geographical - but I'd imagine this is the primary reason people support who they do.
I’m proud to be Welsh , not arsed about the international football or rugby teams to be honest. Everton for me and that’s it.

The connection thing is interesting and I reckon you are right. I think that's why a lot of people from Liverpool don't support England as they don't have a major connection with England as a whole, I'm not old enough to know but I wonder if this was the case before the 80's as I feel that was the time when the bad feeling began to grow.

I understand scousers being aggrieved at their treatment from the English govt and crown. It takes strong conviction to stand against the grain and for what you believe is right and just.

Scousers do this well I find. They don’t tolerate bullies or the nasty, they shall never lick boot.

Thats my balanced appraisal. Each to their own.
I don't think the thieving scouser stereotypes have helped either. It's mad how much it still gets churned out to this day.

I don't think the rest of the world hate England (note England, not the UK) because of historical stuff. And I don't even think most the world hates England anyway!

I think nationalism is weird personally. Nobody chooses where they were born. But why must they support the team of the nation they were born in? The same players who they hate week in and week out normally. Should they want Liverpool to win because they were born in Liverpool too? Should they support absolutely everything to do with England in general? Nothing wrong if they do that of course but why should they?
You don't have to be a nationalist to support your national football team. It's just a bit of fun. Not that deep really.

There was someone on the Melbourne Reddit page saying that they don't want England to win.

I just said to them for the banter why not? The Union Jack is on your national flag, and King Charles is your head of state.

So taking all that into account one must come to the conclusion that Australia is still British property!

Do people actually support England during qualifiers and stuff? I get the tournaments but surely it's just a complete waste of time other than every 2 years
