Transfer Rumour William Carvalho

Hes far better than barry mate.

He probably is yeh but Barry is one of those players who still has such an impact on a side.

I'm not saying Carvalho wouldn't be a top signing. I was reluctant at first but given how Wanyama was effective under RK at Saints - as a holding player in a 4-3-3 usually, then I think it would be a good move if it came off, and certainly is the 'calibre' of player we should be aiming for.

However, I still reckon Barry will have a lot of game time next season should he avoid injury, and rightly so. Never mind his age he is still a class act.

Who is mill?
He's a poster on here, who reckons Walsh discovered 24m Drogba And 24m Essien. Drogba scored 19 for Marseille that season and helped them to the UEFA cup final, scoring v Liverpool on the way. He was one of the most in demand strikers in the World with a host of clubs after him. But Walsh discovered him. And He also discovered Essien who was the mainstay in Lyon's midfield helping them to back to back League titles, where he nearly joined AC Milan before settling for Chelsea.

Essien almost joined Everton before Lyon, if I recall. Nice of Walsh to give us the heads up on him all those years ago.

Quite excited by the prospect of Carvalho. Didn't really catch the eye in the Euros but by most accounts fits the bill as a ball winner who can also pass. I've never seen him in the Portuguese league but did catch a Sporting game against Leverkusen last season, for which I think he was captain. They lost but he played well.

He seems much more McCarthy like rather than Barry. Covers a lot of ground, breaks down play and can put in a good tackle however fails to do much when he's got the ball or the team is attacking.

He's much better on the ball than McCarthy - to be honest he's not really like either of them so all the comparisons are a bit silly anyway.

McCarthy is a midfielder who when on form provides a lot of energy and decent pace over 10 yards, is strong in the tackle and adept at breaking down opposition play and then giving the ball on, keeping possession ticking over if you will.

Barry uses his experience to always be in the right place at the right time and despite his age and lack of pace still gets around the pitch brilliantly. He's a decent passer as well but for me always lacks range (I still firmly believe that the best 'passer' in our midfield currently is Gibson, while Cleverley (again brought up under Scholes in training at Utd, and you can tell) also has this in his locker).

Carvalho is more of a 'bruiser' in that he uses his strength to beat players to the ball and keep possession, but also has a great range of passing, making him perfect for a deep role in a similar way to how Koeman utilised Wanyama at Saints.

For me, definitely. Having a midfielder that could potentially boss the midfield and still provide killer passes for a player that looks built for the premier league.

Both would be nice though eh.

Fair assesment there mate, and he does look the part, Mata is the more 'glamorous' i suppose, but carvalho could very well be far more important as to quote the old cliche it's in the midfield that the game is won or lost

Having a dominant mid who can also spray those killer passes out is something we havent had for a very very long time as well

Both would be absolutely fantastic, but lets be greedy and throw that Koulibaly lad into our list as well, a big physical dominant Centre half is something i've missed at the club - maybe as much as the fabled number 10...

One thing for sure, Koeman seems to have definitely identified us as having to bring in some players who add not only size but strength to the team as well, as pretty much any semi credible linked player fits that mould, and for one i am made up with that, not many will fancy playing against us if we get some of these lads into the team

The bit in bold could well be the key factor in bringing him in...
