Tripple glazing only if exposed location or a noisy road nearby - otherwise double should be surface make sure they Insulation is spot on on all windows with insulation foam- which sounds like the last firm who fitted them did not do!
Also this - ours are double but if they're all closed you can barely hear anything outside, massive difference from before for us, even more noticeable this new year lol

Still in shock about the prices in the UK though. Ridiculous for something that doesn't require a lot of specialisation or anything...

The fitting is everything as you can't see what's behind them once fitted - get a recommendation on who fits them ...

My next door neighbour told me most windows now come with a triangle approved stamp .
One salesman told me the firm he worked fitted top class windows with the rubber fittings so good aeroplanes used the same rubbers to seal the glass .....
I told him my house was static & I did not envisage it ever wanting to fly in the air when he gave me a quotation lol

Ours was with a company, start to finish with them - they did everything from removing the old things to laying the bricks and all that, just didn't have the time/means to do wall insulation on the outside properly (with XPS and all that) so we're only 2 layers on the outside, which is still okay but not a long term solution, and we'll finish it this year.

Quite happy but clearly can't recommend as I live about 3000km away lol

Yeah the panes fit neatly in the frames and they are made to size/fit and have rubber on both sides. Smart installation all things considered, but I didn't expect the massive things to come basically in parts lol

Just as a bit of advice in regards to general upvc window maintenance, all parts, glazing unit hinges lock mechanism rubber seals etc, are easily replaced and relatively cheap to buy.
Happy to advise anyone if they need any guidance
Will have to hit you up some time in the future 👍

I've had the windows replaced on my house fairly recently. I was looking at acoustic windows for road noise, but my fitter said it's a waste of time unless you live by a mad busy road. He was bang on, got new profiles and double glazed units and they made a world of difference. If you've got wood frames and single glazing I'd imagine you'd see significant difference in sound penetration.

Edit: I upgraded from 15-20yr old double glazed units and the difference is huge. Installation is a big factor. The previous owners fitters I imagine to have worn spurs and a stetson.

Do yours have trickle vents mate?

They insist on them now, it's putting me off because thinking why bother replacing windows with acoustic glass for noise/drafts to have to have a bloody vent...

In process at moment, multiple quotes and options, thinking triple will come out tops as not too worried about the Owls, more the mating foxes, noisy little bleeders!!

8 large windows, 1 small and 1 mid size, coming in around 5k-7.5k.

Just making the decision over next few weeks. Ours are also 20 years old and draughty as hell.

Good luck.

*edit Anglian wanted 14k!!!

Had 2 quotes so far.

2 square bay windows
6 flat windows
£10,787, including VAT.

Another;

1) replace existing glass to bay window with acoustic toughened low energy glass. Replace old draught seals to 4 opening windows
£1247 all inc. per bay
2) fully replace bay window inc acoustic glass new frames
£2508
3)fully replace 2 front bedroom windows and central landing window. Acoustic glass
£2390 fully inclusive
4) Side bedroom windows fully replaced acoustic glass
£950 each
5) side lounge window fully replaced and works required to recess frame back into reveal. Inc acoustic glass
£1315

Starting to wish I trained as a window fitter. I'd be retired by now. lol

Nope. Although I do wish I had them as they could help with humidity and condensation, which is a problem in my house. These old solid brick wall houses designed for airflow struggle a bit when we seal them all up! There's wall vents and I open the windows daily to ventilate.

I think I had the last lot put in about 18 months ago, no mention of mandatory trickle vents.

"Trickle ventilation became mandatory for all homes on June 15th 2022"

Though I suppose you can always just open the windows - if a trickle vent is in and they're noisy/draughty, you've not got anywhere else to go really.

Think mine was built in the 20s, open fires in bedrooms, tall ceilings etc so don't tend to struggle with humidity. Only 2 of us as well, and we use a dehumidifier fairly often. Probably helps the existing windows are battered too.

One fitter said he'd fit without, but then it's indemnity insurance etc when come to sell which pain in the arse. The other said I can just use something to fill it to which didn't really inspire confidence....

Think I just missed that.
