I watched the game last night, it was very entertaining and perhaps footie as it should be played.
Very few fouls, no shirt pulling and arm wrestling, diving and claiming fouls and injuries.
OK it's played at a slower pace but have to give credit for some very skillful individual performances.
Haven't seen a women's game for years but I'll be following this tournament now.

England v France will be interesting.

Despite being sport and football mad country (Croatia) woman football is almost non existent here, i genuinely don't know do we even have a team. Plenty of girls train some sport, when i was going to school still in early 2000 half of girls in my class trained some sport, but it was mostly basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, tennis........ that are popular choices as a woman sport here. Skiing for a time too (despite we having barely any real mountains), popularized by our probably greatest woman sportsman ever who won like 6 Olympic medals in early 2000s.

Agree, last time I watched England properly was when they had Kelly Smith, Fara Williams etc. Dont watch womens CL or WSL etc so first 5 mins last night I thought they quality hadnt improved that much. But after the goal went in it was like a switch was flicked so I think it was nerves. The mens team can obviously be like that too but I see much more of them.

Ill be watching more games to see the overall level, but it does seem a lot slower in general.

There is still a huge gap on the world stage where in international tourneys where its professionals against people who have day jobs/are in school.

When top 10 countries face each other tho, there is more than enough talent that its generally always decent watch w/ very little nonsense in that you see in the men's game.

I do think that one reason why women's club football gets no attn is just the club setup. Women's football needs a Euro super league.

They have CL and the coverage this tournament is getting can only help the profile further, getting bigger by the year in the US and as others have already stated the lack of play acting prevailing in the men's game is making it preferable to watch already.

US leagues get a nice post WC bump but it fizzles after a few weeks and really its so niche here and they don't get media coverage. I think there are too many leagues and still not enough talent yet. Maybe that'll change dunno. Bring the top say 500ish players all together under one league instead of scattered throughout the US, France, England, Germany etc Play a lot matches around 11am, on the weekends which would be more desirable than hearing annoying pre-match talking heads and it would find a bigger audience. I think it would also help raise salaries and get more attn.

I was big fan of NBA as a kid, especially Bulls in the 90s, Jordan and of course player from my country there (Toni Kukoc). But i remember at the time there was attempt to start woman version of NBA, i still see that its going. Did it ever managed to achieve any popularity or profitability in America?
