Yes we bloody well can.

Is this the high moral ground you were thinking of? The British military are holding 90 Afghans in Camp Bastion and some have been held for 14 months.

One of the lawyers said, 'it is only, under pressure from the court, after we issued habeas corpus proceedings that the Ministry of Defence reluctantly agreed to allow us to speak with two of our eight clients on Wednesday. They continue to deny us access to the other six. We had just one hour on the telephone, but it was enough to raise concerns that, as is so often the case, incommunicado detention has been coupled with ill treatment and abuse. There were all too familiar echoes of Iraq as our clients described an interrogation regime replete with solitary confinement, sleep and sensory deprivation, temperature manipulation and inhuman and degrading conditions. Perhaps this explains why the Ministry of Defence is so anxious to ensure that no other detainees are allowed to speak to lawyers. Guardian.

Right, I have several family members who have served and are surving in the armed forces so I deaply resent the idea that they could be called a murder or even compered to the trash resposible for this. Secondly if these people are so high minded about deaths of "their people" then why don't they try to kill the dictators in there own countrys who do far more damage the our troops ever did. It strikes me that they are more outraged that our troops come from a supposed Christian country and not a fellow Muslim one. Hence the jihad bs. So yes I'm fairly sure that I, you and most normal humans can take a fairly high moral stand point. Oh and Hullefc, I don't believe anything that comes out of the Guardian anymore then I do the Daily Mail (and that's saying somthing!).

The Labour government, alongside the US, was responsible for putting the present Afghan government in place. The Tories have seen fit to continue to spend £15 million a day, militarily, propping up the Afghan government. It doesn't say much for the much heralded 'save Afghani's from the Taliban butchers'. The British and US governments installed an equal 'butcher Karzai' but they will put up with that because 'he is our butcher' (as the saying goes) provide he plays ball. If he goes off message, like Saddam Hussein, then his days will be numbered. And guess who trained the Afghan police, the Ministry of Defence Police, that did nothing to stop the torture of Iraqi prisoners detained by the British military.

The lawyers are involved because they were asked to get involved by a father who was concerned about his son locked up at Camp Bastion since March 2012.

the taliban were getting beat by the northern alliance, hands down they would have been in charge anyway ,they were happly putting the likes of these people in containers to roast to death, the uk and usa have wasted time and effort to try and restore some sort of order to the country , which will return to anarchy the minute we leave, as for the prisoners the very same people who slaughterd are miltary police kill thousands of there own people and are troops , then complian that they arnt treated in a civilised manner, maybe we should behead them, would you like that,to even things up one rule for us and them seems fair, or is it a case of we will have western morals when it suits us but demonise it the rest of the time. The lawyer was involed to make money and spout ****e as normal he makes his name and living out of this stuff and we are daft enough to pay for it , the prisoners father would have more to complain about if we handed him in to get tortured, and do you know if he is guilty of anything, no well the uk has said they will hand him over for local justice to find out , and thats wrong now as well.waste of time having anything to do with any of it.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again we need to leave the EU, get rid of the 3 main parties and worry about our own country, we have no right sticking our noses in other countries problems and like has been said the clowns will only start fighting once we leave. UKIP IN

read something online that a school cancelled normal lessons to celebrate chinese new year or something like that whilst we dont even celebrate st george's day what a joke of a country we are

Bluenose1995, the sad thing is I'm not even suprised by that type of nonsense anymore. This multi-cultural society we've created is nothing short of a disaster. Some people will say diffrent of course but I doubt they have been effected by it at all. That's why I mentioned patriotism earlier, there is a big lack of national pride in our own country and it stinks! We should be proud to be british but that's not allowed anymore. The best thing for everyone is for all western country to stay well clear of the middle east as the whole area is one big disaster after another.

I've got family members who have served and are serving in the armed forces. Plus a lot of good friends.
I'm not attacking the armed forces at all.

I'm not blinkered though. Our government's foreign policy leaves a lot to be desired.

Why do Muslims think we are waging a war against them?

Think about it. Educate yourself.

One funny thing about any debate involving Muslims, Jews and the knuckle-dragging hard right is their mutual hatred of homosexuality. The irony is brilliant.

I'd personally support a law that for the EDL, BNP, UKIP, Muslims against crusades and all their cohorts to appear in public they first had to sign a declaration that said "bum sex is fine and dandy"

Oh I'm not blinkerd ratkiller, I'm perfectly aware that that our goverment and their foreign policy is a joke and has been for years. However if people can't separate, goverments from armed forces then I'm sorry but they are stupid.

The uk and the USA couldn't care less about restoring order to Afghanistan. It was all about running a pipeline through the country.
We had to facilitate a coup in Georgia first to make it possible. And since the Georgian constitution forbids foreign troops on its soil blackwater was used instead. A private army doing Americas bidding.

And what are these western morals you speak of?

Is it this?
