World Cup 2022

It's a bit of a mess. We've decided to do it anyway because 2026 is at home (next week they're announcing venues and if Baltimore gets picked it'll literally be home for me) and that means waiting 8 years to go to one with the US hopefully involved. I just can't plan out life that far. So we're going to take it on it hope all goes well.
Very good chance Baltimore is a host city for the next World Cup. It’s being pitched almost as a dual bid with DC since they dropped their bid.

I think it is pretty nailed on. My guess is DC got word that they were basically out because Landover is a dump and threw in so they can at least get a fanzone on the Mall or whatever.

Saw Brazil vs. the US at FedEx some years back. What an absolute nightmare getting in and out of there. Took me three hours to get there from my office in McLean. Missed the first half sitting in traffic—-no public transportation makes that stadium an absolute nightmare

Exactly. Baltimore public transport is a joke in almost any circumstances but this is the exception. You've got a train straight from the airport to the stadium and to downtown where in theory all the visitors will be. Plus the stadium is walkable.

I remember reading an article that ranked DC as one of the most likely and thought it was laughable. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

Fair play.

I treat it as a holiday, and I just don’t think the Middle East is somewhere I can enjoy.

Everyone is different, I suppose. Understand you’re point, I’m excited for 2030 most of all.

I did think they’d already agreed that MetLife had already been confirmed as the final in 2026, is that not the case?

I think MetLife is rumored but not confirmed. It's all revealed Thursday.

Euro 2024 in Germany would be awesome but the US obviously won't be involved so you lose a bit there. I'm thinking about it.

Ah we’ve got 3 weeks planned for the Euros.

Swinged it with the other half to do 8 days for the group and fly in and out for the route to the final (if needed).

I’m all for the Mexican aspect of 2026, got family down the east coast, but Mexico just screams perfect for me.

FedEx might be the worst stadium ever built. If Everton was playing in the C-league final at FedEx even tho its only 60mi away I would not go and stay home and watch it on TV.

Santa Clara (San Francisco) is right terrible as well its a hellish commute and despite the weather being OK the sun burns the retnias of 1/2 the stadium. And yes unless its asia vs. the americas that match is being played at 12 noon or 1pm.

All the other stadiums are relatively good, tho you might roast in Miami.

Baltimore is fine hotels are affordable. Trains run North/South and Northeast and all stop by the stadium. you can uber to a station and/or stay at a cheaper place in the suburbs.

Kinda want the finals to be in Dallas.

Nope. My son (about to turn 18) is desperate to go to a world cup with me, but we will wait 4 years and go to Canada
Why Canada if you don’t mind me asking? If I wasn’t a Yank, I’d probably be choosing Mexico first as my preferred destination. Atmosphere down there will be next level.

I think any of the venues away from the main cities should be out. So no Santa Clara, no Foxboro, in my world no MetLife but that is clearly not happening. FedEx is on that list as well but they ruled themselves out.

I’m really hoping Denver gets to host as I live there now, but it seems we may be on the outs from what I’ve read. Not sure why though. Mile high is a good stadium for a game, and it’s proximity to downtown is a plus.

Went to the Ravens game at Mile High and it was great. My guess is the altitude is a negative considering it also figures to be fairly hot in June/July. I can't think of any other reason it wouldn't be a contender.

If Mexico City is hosting, Denver’s altitude shouldn’t even be in the conversation. Who knows, we may yet get to host. It’s all speculation at this point. Just seems other cities might have the inside track. Helps that Chicago pulled out though. They would’ve been an absolute lock.
