And potting a pink instead of the black for a 147 because the £10,000 prize wasn't enough. lol147 in 5 & 1\2 minutes who will ever surpass Ronnie's clearance in that time span ?
I wonder how much his Netflix documentary of him winning the world title will fetch him ?And potting a pink instead of the black for a 147 because the £10,000 prize wasn't enough. lol
I’d be very close between them both at peak level. The question with Hendry is what could he have achieved had he not gotten the yips? He could beat Ronnie at his peak but the counterargument is Ronnie was not fully developed.
agree with thatDon't think Hendry's talent is in question. More to do with the depth of talent he had to compete with. The leves across the board is much higher now
the 'yips' were a convenient excuse for himThe question with Hendry is what could he have achieved had he not gotten the yips? He could beat Ronnie at his peak but the counterargument is Ronnie was not fully developed.
Think Davis is more of the GoaT then Hendry, tbh. I mean it is Ronnie, but Davis changed the game more than both of them combined.I don't see any need to to dimimish Hendry's status. He was the player who most enjoyed being a winner, and he thrived undee the most in high pressure situations to produce his best snooker - he loved the pressure of the Crucible. Those are qualities that make him a true GOAT contender. That it has taken Ronnie so long to match his WSC haul is a testament to how good and dominant Hendry was.
Snooker is too difficult a game and the standard is high enough now that it’s very unlikely we’ll see Davis/Hendry level of domination again.

Prior to Davis you could show up to the crucible just because you were good at potting balls.
Standards are far higher, true, but this argument ultimately suggests its easier to be an innovator than a follower, which cannot be right. Innovation only looks easy in hindsight - it's easy to see now that the first good snooker player to bring an all-round tactical game to the Crucible, and not drink five pints per set, was always going to have a massive impact. But it's hard as balls to actually be that person.I think that may be true, but then standards were much lower when Davis dominated, so there was much lower hanging fruit just from the application of going about the game as a professional. As standards rise it becomes more and more difficult to raise the bar. take in Motor racing, the great drivers from the 50s were 2-3 seconds faster than their peers, in the 70s it had come down to 1s, in the 90s it was half a second, and today it's a tenth or two, as the general standard has risen it is impossible to hold the same sort of competitive advantage that the greats of previous era held.
I agree he changed the game. Its just that the game went up another level with his protegesHendry’s attacking style was revolutionary. It is why players now are So much more likely to finish frames in one visit.
Before Hendry players would not use the blue as a way to open up the reds.
If anything, Steve was the peak of classic snooker.
