Robertson and Selby - who I was writing off last season - are both back Back BACK!
I feel sorry for John Higgins. He's had a fine week, but he just can't seem to get over the line in a final these days. I suppose getting to them is the achievement at his age, though. Hats off to him. A marvelous player.
If this week has reminded us of anything, though, it's that Mark Selby is the ultimate match player. Mark Allen tried to play him at his own game and came acropper. Higgins, who was previously the best match player ever, is probably just outmatched by evolution as much as anything. He's giving away eight years, and Selby took that to a new high in the last decade.
I'm pleased Selby appears to be approaching his best form again. Styles makes matches, and a top-form Selby versus Trump, Robertson, or O'Sullivan would be box office.
