Worst Job, Best Job, Current Job

Worst: sales in a big tech company. Sales sucked the life out of me. Hated picking up the phone even if it wasn't actually cold calling. In the end I spent most time off sick , and I learned how to play ping-pong in the break room whilst avoiding work But the dread in the morning...hated it

Best: today I was looking at flights to Portugal to meet up with good friends. We did Amsterdam last year and are going to try keep it up each year now. They are all friends I made working in HMV 20-25yrs ago and I have to say the first few years there were the best times of my work life. (before I started moving up the ladder). Early 20s and it was just work, talk about music/movies/games, go out after work probably 3 or 4 nights a week and talk about more of the same. Guest lists and free tickets for concerts. Even got to meet one of my musical heroes Neil Young through work . Also got a hug from Dolly Parton for bringing her a sandwich. Great discount back before the world of downloading. Good memories

Current. Supervisor of a team of 12 in credit & collections. I just randomly ended up in this area due to the first job I managed to get when I moved to Barcelona. Its ok. I seem to be naturally good with organising what they do and creating/managing processes and I know I'm a good people person, but have to say people management I could do without. Can't see myself still managing people in this way in 10yrs. Good company and decent further prospects, but I find im dreaming each day of a different plan for my last 20yrs of work and try to convince my wife we should move back to her country in Caribbean to open a bar on the beach or get into renting out holiday property. Office work for 20 more years ..? Eugh. Even if it is only 2 days in and 3 days WFH

Best - labourer when I was in my teens. Not much to worry about, just paying my mum rent with my wage, and the rest was for .. God knows, can't really remember

Worst - Asbestos removal operative. Dirty, dangerous and was working with some first class belters

Current - Offshore technician on a windfarm , Netherlands. Not a bad job, but can be full on , especially this time of year when the weather is good

Worst: air purifier salesman. Straight out of Uni and it was described as a trainee manager role. They wanted me to go to people's houses and blow dust from a vacuum cleaner into children's faces. I lasted a day. My abiding memory was reading scripts and a middle-aged Geordie telling me I was "a canny reader".

Current: Financial Crime Director for a large corp. I work 10 hours a day minimum during the week and an hour or 2 on weekend days. I haven't had a solid day off in years, even when I was having surgery. I take meetings on holiday and handle emails from 0600-2300 every day including Xmas. It's stressful, challenging and infuriating at times. It's likely taken/taking years off my life.

Best: my current job. I've been able to travel the world, I've built a holiday/retirement home and haven't had to budget in years. And to be honest, I need the game. I need to win, to beat the criminals. I need the daily stress to keep me motivated. If I live long enough to retire I'll be terrible at it.

Get that from Everton alone.

Worst: route driver for a uniform cleaning company. Long hours, exposed to weather, nasty work. I would encounter bags full of moldy kitchen towels covered in maggots almost daily.

Best: working for my dad in a mattress store. It wasnt the busiest store, so most of the time I was there alone sitting at the desk watching Netflix.

Current: I work in HR for several different operational companies. Not a bad job overall. Some stress involved with benefits administration, disciplinary actions, interpersonal conflict resolution, etc but overall not awful.

Best: Petrol pump attendant back in the '70s. 2 common phrases: 1) Put that nozzle back, I'm doing it and 2) Put that fag out

Worst: Night shift putting the jelly in pork pies with a jelly gun (Eventually fired for shooting my moronic supervisor with the jelly gun)

Current: Something in IT which mainly involves staring at a screen all day long, and sighing.

I honestly havnt had a job I didnt like/mind.

My fave was doing the home deliveries for 7 years or so. Just loved it, even though I earned tons more in a previous life.

Current. Kinda inbetween really. Most likely will sell the house next year, the World notwithstanding, and a few hours a day in Sainsburys might not be the worst idea.

Been quite lucky reading some of the above.

Jobs. Having never worked until I was well into my 20s, I've only ever done similarish jobs in my area of expertise.

Worst place was an outfit in Bury. They'd moved their HQ and R&D from the US and the people who moved in where the dross and appeared to ruin the manufacturing side too- very, very toxic place.

Best place, one in France. 35 hour week, 12 Bank Holidays and 25 days leave, 2 hour lunches with booze and the ability to close the door and sleep it off. And they weren't strict with time keeping either and when I was going, the secretary said she had "lost" my holiday sheet so they gave me the month off. I literally did nowt and when I came back to the UK the company got bought out and I got a 6 month severance pay which worked out great as I had just accepted a job elsewhere a few days before hand but the guy I asked for a reference made me promise to not hand my notice in until he said so. Made out like a bandit with that now defunct company.

Current job. Classified. Actually work though now.

Best . .. student holiday job looking after an enormous hornby train diorama in a holiday park. Repauring and rebuilding train motors. Actually paid to do what many would think of as a hobby - just like a professional footballer.

Worst job - 6 years working as a science teacher in a Catholic school under a tyrannical sadistic head master who hated men, hated science (on account of him being a thalidomide baby), hated anyone who saw him for what he was or didn't nod furiously at his every word. He was roundly hated by practically everybody apart from the utter dullards he promoted yo his inner circle- until he found a way of throwing them under the bus. As an atheist I left that school actually hoping that there was a god, and by extrapolation a hell awaiting that man. I actually heard a nun utter the words "he wanks off at other people's displeasure."

Current job - blissfully retired building machines, hifi, engineering .... oh and kitchens.

Scratch that - list kitchens as "worst job."
