i think its quite harshj that people have said that what he had done for uruguay was cheating. The opposite which is what Maradona did was but with this I personally see it more as taking one for the team so to speak and as they missed a penalty it paid off, you could say that both acts are obviously not in the laws of the game but still theres a big difference and its paid off for him.

its a bit like what phil neville did against the rs a few years back although the jammy bar stewards scored the penalty if that penalty had been missed then he would be even more of a legend!

Absolutely not. He did what he had to do and was duly punished for it.

If Gyan converts, there's no discussion.

Reminds me of Neville back in the day when he "took one for the team" and no one called him a cheat.

Undoubtedly a cheat.....we'd all have done the same for Everton....but a cheat all the same

Let's be clear here.

Diving is cheating. Embellishment is cheating. Feigning injury is cheating. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the rules that really hammers these cheaters.

Clearing a ball of the line with your hand. Not cheating. It's not allowable and there is an applicable punishment for it.

But cheating? No.

Over here in Holland, Suarez has the reputation of being a cheat. Don't blame him for what he did. Worked out well for Uruguay in the end, didn't it? Also, Suarez comes across to me, as a very warm and friendly person. Find it very difficult to hate him, although I despise the club he plays for.

There has been much more cheating going on at this world cup than a handball on the line. The amount of diving, simulation, pleading innocence etc has spoiled it for me. Blatant diving and overacting, like Rivaldo's idiotic antics a few years back, should be a sending off offence as far as i'm concerned.

This.

Isnt cheating breaking the rules and getting away with it?

But didnt Suarez broke the law and got sent off? Where's he cheating?

It is cheating cause he deliberatly broke the rules of the game to gain an advantage, even if it was purely instinctive his instinct was still to hadball it which he knew was wrong.

However ill c+p what i wrote on another forum about it :

I'd fully support the people criticising Suaraz and Uruguay, saying how cheating has prospered and he should miss the final and the rules should be changed if it wasn't for 1 simple thing.

And thats that players on every team cheat numerous times in every game.

Its not just handballs on the line, its not just diving and pretending to be hurt. Its shirt pulling, its arm grabbing, its claiming a corner when you know it came off you last, its time wasting, its tripping an opponent and claiming they dived.

They are all acts of breaking the laws of the game knowingly in order to gain an advantage.

No team or fan can claim the higher moral ground when every team does it.

Some of the diving he was doing was cheating but he got sent off and Ghana got a pen can't see how that's cheating. Ghana aren't angels themselves with all of their crap time wasting etc.

This. He may be a great footballer as a whole, but I don't like him and the way he always throws his arms even from the slightest tackle or touch from anyone and is always complaining about something.

**I don't know what kind of a person he is, but his football character isn't matching his football skills. Also, I don't despise the club he plays for.

EDIT: That being said, what he did in the match wasn't cheating.
