would you call suarez a cheat?

"Taking one for the team" aside, he's still a dirty cheating pr*ck.

Its the same as fouling someone on a fast break. There's nothing wrong with it. Neville would be proud of the young guy. Ghana are dirty anyway and if they didn't time waste so much then they would have had more time to try to win it in regulation.

He traded a 100% chance of a goal for an 88% chance of a goal (or whatever the rate for converting penalties is, but I think that's it), at the cost of getting himself thrown out of the match and suspended for the next. It worked out well for him, but it's down to Gyan that it did.

I make a distinction between breaking the rules (fouling, deliberate handling) and subverting them (diving, fake injury time wasting). Only the latter qualifies as cheating.

Apparently Moyes put a bid in for him but Howard threw a wobbler insisting either he was first choice keeper or he was off.

Quite clearly IS cheating. How can it not be? The ball was going in and he punched it off the line. Of course its cheating. But of course he had to do it. Was he just going to let the ball go in? Of course not. He maximised his teams chances of going through. He took one for the team, and it paid off. He did what anyone would have done. But omg to say it's not cheating is ridiculous. DELIBERATE handball is cheating. Plain and simple, and when you put it on the goaline in the last minute of a quarter final in the world cup it absolutly is cheating. But the jammy get had no choice and you gotta say well played.

How do you seperate 'accidental' from 'deliberate'?

He could easily say he didn't mean it, and you know, the arms and hands are crazy, they just react in certain situations. Some things can't be controlled. It's like blinking if someone tries to flick you in the eye, it's a natural reaction.

That's what my excuse would be anyway.

Why didn't he just let it hit his smug looking face? It wouldn't have hurt his looks would it..........

Stekelenburg sent him a text, saying he was the best keeper in the tournament.....nice

don't think he cheated, he was ejected, and his match suspension may have been the difference in his teams following game against the netherlands.

There has however been talk about ref's possibly gaining the authority to award goals if a handball blatantly stops a goal, similar to penalty tries in rugby, personally i'm against it but i don't really know

Absolutely not cheating, and I can't see how anyone would claim that it is. Suarez made no attempt to subvert the rules of the game; everything was out in the open. The rule book prescribes certain punishment for handling the ball to prevent a goal, Suarez knew what the punishment would be, made a calculation, and decided (rightly so) that it was worth it.

That is not cheating.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Deliberate handball is against the law of the game, therefore it is punishable. The fact that it was on the line just makes it even more so. Just because you 'calculate' the possible punishment doesnt make it less so. A guy really hates someone, works out that if he kills the other guy he'll get life in jail but decides it's worth it. Does that make it not a crime? Of course it bloody well doesn't.

God this is frustrating. Some people are calling hm a scumbag, others are saying he is not a cheat. THERE IS A MIDDLE GROUND FFS. He did cheat, but he had to do it. He wasn't just gonna let it go in the net was he? He's not a scumbag at all for doing it (unless you're Ghanian) but it was cheating.

No matter how many angles you look at this, he still violated the rules to gain an advatantage for his team. This is called cheating and yeah! he's a scumbag..
