i was thinkin about tradeing in my xbox elite for 1 last week but it just seemed like hassle, ps3slimline is well worth gettin.

I wouldnt trade my PS3 for a 360, and anyone who's got an Xbox for so long wouldnt trade in for a PS3. Just the way it goes. Like you said, too much hassle.

Had my PS3 since launch with the PS2 backwards compatability too.

i`ve had a 360 for 3 years now and had 100 games for it, i was never gona wait for a ps3 becuase i didnt bother with games untill the 360.

I've just never got to grips with the Xbox pad and its interface. I had the original Xbox and didnt play it enough with the only game I really battered was Half Life 2.

But I've always been a Sony Playstation head.

I went - Commador 64 -- MegaDrive -- Playstation -- N64 -- Playstation 2 -- little bit of Xbox -- little bit of Wii -- Playstation 3.

PS3 is one hell of a machine, I feel sadly proud to own one. Whats the difference with the slimline??
looks cheap & nasty to me, I'll stick with me big shiny one thanks.

Nothing. The hardware has become smaller but its the same and you get a duelshock 3 pad. I'm thinking they've ironed out bugs from the previous models. Looks more like a PS2.

Its got a bigger hard drive too, I think. 120gb for £249 sheets. I paid £200 for my launch model which only has 60gb so its well worth it.

I've never seen the appeal, but my lads play a lot on their ps2 (as well as their pc & ds) but wifey is suggesting ps3 for them for chrimbo, seems logical assuming it's backwards compatible. But she's now also talking about the wii - I'm pretending not to listen!

The PS3's arent backwards compatible mate. The first models were, which is why they were effing expensive. But they got rid of it to save cost. They still havent figured a way to put it back in at a low cost but are planning to bring PS2 games out for download or an emulator in the future.

It all depends if your kids wanna upgrade or not as their PS2 will still be there to play on. If that puts you off, its best getting a 360 for cheaper.

BUT if you've got a HD tele and are a bit of a gadget man yourself, you'd be on it more than the kids. The Blu Ray and DVD upscaler on it is out and out quality. Will replace your DVD player.

As for the Wii.....erm...you'll play it all of a week and then it'll gather dust. Its good for novalty but its more of a toy than a gaming console.

Depends how old your lads are. The PS3 and Xbox are for people above 11 years old really as they're buggers technically to set up, install game data, saves, deleting, getting online, playing movies etc, and are expensive to throw about. The Wii is really aimed for kids and families.

Ta for the info, KB. I'm not at all techy & have no interest in gaming, but for them it's a way of life! They are 10 & have used their cousin's xbox a fair bit & like it. Tbh, I'm not sure I can see them really going for the wii once the novelty wears off. I'm in a quandary now as it seems the ps3 or xbox would mean a whole new machine to feed - an expense that swiftly outstrips the cost of the machine from what experience I've had to date.

Got to weigh up cost for yourselves.

X Box 360 core is about £170 the Elite is £200. You'll find good bundles. The difference between them is the Elite is a 120gb harddrive console with HDMI port, HDMI cable and you get a headset. You dont on the core console. You'll have to pay to play online with games (I think a gold membership if £50). Plays DVD's. Get a lot of older games for cheap especially 2nd hand like Gears Of War, Halo games etc.

PS3 silm is £249. Can play DVD's, Blu Rays and Playstation 1 games. Doesnt come with a HDMI cable (they're about £6 odd separate). Free online gaming and in built wireless. Older games are cheaper, there's a platinum range, 2nd hand games are cheap too. Can find good bundles with games and blu rays.

Wii....dont bother. Unless the wife wants Wii fit.

Which is why I asked if he's a bit of a gadget man himself because I dont think 10 year olds are arsed about watching The Dark Knight in all its 1080p outstanding picture quality awesomeness...but he might.

I'm not arsed, but even if I was it'd be irrelevant as I never get near the TV - unless Everton are on, when it gets annexed faster than the Sudetenland.

You got a launch PS3 for 200? They were like 430 everywhere near me.
