with windows running on my pc i can access and play all the files through my 360 ....... music , videos , photos etc which is handy.

with vista you can apparently play online streams though your xbox too , using media connect.

then you have windows messenger and voice communication through your freinds list. im sure this has saved me money on phonebills.

then theres the access to download films and games when ever i like.

the xbox is a complete communication and entertainment hub. coupled with a pc it will enhance your life .

which ever console you buy , you will be happy as both have there benefits and qualitys.

the cheaper price and the onlne experience just puts the 360 ahead imo.

as uknightbreed says its up to you but the ps3 does all this and more as you dont need to steaming online content from you pc you can watch streams striaght from the net on you ps3!

and when! (yes its a big when) home comes out on the 19th of november (fingers crossed) i think the ps3 will be on a world of its own!

apparantly you will be able to share music movies and pics all vie home and play free online games such as pool, bowling and so on!
also there will be a cinima which you can enter to watch films of blueray quality apparanly!

I love a good flame war!

Okay I'm going to do some surfing and completely unbiasedly look at both systems.

PS3 Fors
-Beats 360 in month-by-month sales
-Free wireless, built-in Blu-ray, and free online play via the PlayStation Network
Internet broswer
-Blu-ray won the format war
-ALL games are on Blu-ray discs (50 Gigs per disc)
VERY low failure rate
Great connectivity between the PS3, the PSP, and the computer
VERY quiet fan
Small, light controllers
Sixaxis wireless controller for certain games

-Few great games, but plenty of great games coming soon
-Not as many people on the PSN compared to XBL
-Demos, add-ons, and such are on the PSN after the XBL Marketplace
-Some (very few) PS3s have disc drive problems that don’t read the discs properly or will not accept the discs at all
-No rumble controllers yet; the rumble controllers have been announced

Xbox Pros
-XBL has many people and a great connection
-You can own noobs online while listening to your favorite music!
-Beats PS3 in overall sales due to the fact that it was released over a year before the PS3
-Great games
-Demos, add-ons, and such are on the XBL Marketplace before the PS3
-Rumble in controllers

Xbox Cons
-WAY too many callbacks and problems (RRoD, destroying of discs, etc.)
-If you bought everything to as closely match the features of the PS3 it’d cost almost the price of the sytem itself (HD DVD drive, wireless hook-up, XBL payments) — these things add up!
-No Internet browser
-HD DVD lost the format war
-All games are on regular DVD discs (5 Gigs of memory, 9 gig dual layer), which greatly limits games
-WAY too high of a failure rate — about 17%, in fact
-Large, heavy, roaring jet engine fans!

I copied this off a site, and the general consensus seems to be:

Both systems have the same sort of qualities where each has its owns strong points.
The Xbox, with a year head start has a better game selection.
The Xbox has almost reached its limit with its graphics capabilities, where Ps3 has a greater scope for improving.
The Ps3 has an all in price, where Xbox will cost you more with add ons and subscriptions.
The Xbox by all accounts has a extremely high failure rate, where the Ps3's failure is very low.
Game developers like the Xbox, because of the extra time they have to develop titles for it.

One other factor for me is that I can play the same games on my PSP!

Which is exactly what Sony did with the PS1. It launched it's first gen console early and flooded the market with games straight away so the others couldn't compete. It also kept hold of exclusives away from Nintendo and Sega like Tekken, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid. Playstation 3 has not kept any of these as they are all being released for the 360.

Yeah its just better business. They learnt from the mistakes of the first xbox, and got in early. I was in the xbox camp until they didnt have as many games and then my system crapped itself.

I loved the xbox.

to be honest my xbox has broken twice , but then again , arranging the free fix and pick up was very easy . i had it back both times within a week , with free xbox live for my trouble.
microsoft learnt there leason the hard way but new models are pretty well built now.

my biggest comcern with the ps3 is 'will it survive ' ?
the man behind the playstation revelovution was sacked soon after release and they are losing money hand over fist as they are nowhere nere there sales targets
.it could very easily go the way of the sega saturn.

not sure where those sales 'facts' were from above, but i was speaking to my local game manager a few weeks back and he says they sell almost twice as many xbox'x as ps3's and the wii outsells both 3-1.
