Yannick Bolasie

I think there’s a few things to look at with both signings, one of them being how we all felt at the time. The Klaassen signing was understandable, although we all recognised it was a gamble he was Ajax captain at the end of the day and had won trophies and had a very good goal scoring record. It was a gamble that did not work out.

Bolasie was never, ever going to be a good signing, it was doomed to fail from the start. We literally just paid £30m for a bottom half Premier League player who’d been average for his entire career. We could all see there was no way it was going to work. That makes Bolasie the worse signing for me.
Yeah I can’t really argue with that if I’m honest. His signing was totally inexplicable and I’m not sure anyone thought it would turn out any different to how it has

I remember trying my best to see how it might work and make myself think there was a plan to fit him into the team but I was wrong, he was an absolute mule.

He's only had 4 chances created in one game this season, so I'm not quite sure how this could be true.

Regardless this isn't even the point. Bolasie is in the same category as Bernard, Walcott, Iwobi, Lennon and plenty of others at other positions and yet he seems to be the one that we treat like some kind of blight on the club. It's absurd to me.

And for the record @windymiller this is how it goes now. I talk about anything and someone brings up Bernard. I don't start it.
Bolasie is no shape or form in the same category as Aaron Lennon, Lennon was a team player who offered himself at both ends of the field, defending and attacking, gave his all for every minute he was on the pitch, could have been better, at times with his final pass, another player who never got enough time on the field, used too often as a sub, when an inferior player had wasted sixty or seventy minutes before he was dragged off and Aaron had those few minutes to do something as a sub.

Koemans 'strategy' was to lump the ball to bolasie who did a few 'tricks' and then on the occasions that he

A: Didnt lose the ball
B: Give away the ball
C: Run out of play

He would punt the ball aimlessly, head down in pure hope that someone would reach it rather than (usually) going to the opposition defenders or a teammate on the opposite flank.

Lukaku took the ball off him several times and for that he gets an assist on paper but the reality is somewhat different.

Anyone who saw him at Palace could see he was someone not worth of being a squad member let alone such a daft fee.

He was signed as he was Lukakus mate it seems...
This isn't true at all. In fact the only time this happened was at Turf Moor and it was Bolasie taking it off Lukaku to score.

I'm just asking everyone to be a bit more honest and less angry about this one all the time.

People do get hung up on transfer fees a bit - (like haven't we got out own mortgages to worry about?) But it's still a legit consideration. Colossal blunders like the Bolasie signing produce bad football first and foremost, are a huge missed opportunity to strengthen the team, and stress the fanbase with the realisation that the club management is very weak.

Bolasie is far from the worst player we've seen in the Royal Blue Jersey but he is one of the worst signings. Like genuinely one of the most fatuous buys anyone here can remember going back decades. We paid a flabbergasting fee (and presumably hefty wages) for a 100% known quantity - a bang average lower half prem player. No upside whatsoever.

Players like Klassen, for example, were objectively worse, but nowhere near as bad signings as there were at least potentially good - Klassen had captained Ajax in the Europa league final and had looked good doing so, we had Ajax fans on here saying they'd seen the guy play 200 times and you can bet your house on him being a success, minimum 7/10 every game and usually more. Turned out to be total fantasy but you can roll the dice on a signing like that.
The problem with those signings isn't the players themselves though, it's that we had no plan. Bolasie would have been actually pretty useful if we were building a side to play like we are now where the formation dictates that the wingers play a bit more on their own as there is one less guy in midfield. But I think you're speaking to what I'm saying which is essentially that we should probably stop making this so much about Bolasie himself and more about Walsh, Koeman and the rest. But saying Bolasie was a lower half player (he played 90% of the minutes before getting hurt and we were 7th) is the kind of thing that we should just leave out. As little sense as it all made, he did alright.

Statistically but what Mbappe has done as a teenager has being matched by very few young players ever 26 goals in 44 games Title with Monaco over PSG and UCL semi finals on his first dig. Add a key role in the world cup with France its a resume very few players possess
Well yes Haaland hasn't won the lot yet, granted winning is a team sort of deal and I doubt he will ever be in position for international success as a result, but even then it isn't impossible that he'd have won a Bundesliga had things not been shelved. And Germany looks set to finish up so he still might yet. Regardless they're two very different players who have done the same job at the same level. It's why I feel comfortable saying Bolasie wasn't the worst player ever despite whatever it looked like. Because ultimately he did his job.

Basically you're saying he was clumsily effective. Sorta like Stracq, but better, yeah? Neither are the purists...

All it needed with Bolasie was someone with a firm hand to assess the value for money. Even if he performed to his maximum he was never going to be worth what we paid. Sadly we had Steve Walsh feeding Koeman grapes and accommodating his every indulgence.

Maybe that is "how it goes now" but that's only because you have made yourself the face of the movement. Like Jenny McCarthy and anti-vaxxers or Tom Cruise and bodily alien contamination.

Except in my case I'm the one using actual data and y'all are the ones who are backing it up with your eyes and feelings while saying numbers are a lie. Nevermind that the best teams in the world all incorporate numbers and statistics into everything they do because Bernard makes you feel all warm inside.

He put in a fair few decent crosses didn't he?
Apparently they were lucky hoofs. Weird how crossing is only a skill when it suits.

He crosses without looking up. Simply by watching him play you can see this.

Please stop this nonsense and calling people dishonest about what they have witnessed with their own eyes.

The bloke is a total donkey.
