What does he offer? Pace? Fat lot of good that is when he's constantly the wrong side of players and never tracks runs.

I'd rather play kean and mina myself and play a deeper line but it doesn't really matter kean will be sold in the summer I think and zouma won't be getting bought. Think we'll be getting 2 new cb's who are both good at zonal.

....there’s no doubt Zouma is raw, but he has all the attributes to be a top defender. I guarantee of all the CBs at Everton, he’s the one opposition strikers least like coming up against. He lacks discipline, but he’s also having to cover the frailties of those around him. He’s trying to put fires out covering for others, continually bailing Keane out.

I understand what you say about Zouma, the difference with him is that the things that are wrong can be remedied. Sanchez plays alongside Mina for Columbia and they are a decent partnership, Zouma is a similar type to Sanchez. I somehow don’t see Michael Keane near the French international squad.

My opinion, of course.

Keane is playing pretty much every game. I don't reckon he will be sold.

As daft as it sounds I don't think our defence has been THAT bad in open play. Our defending from set pieces has been awful obviously but that goes against the whole team not just the defence. If we keep doing the same thing at set pieces does it matter who we bring in?

...Mina/Zouma for the rest of the season, surely.
You'd be surprised. It'll be chop and change every other week until the end of the season. Hopefully then Brands will ditch both Jagielka (out of contract) and Keane (highest bidder of around 8m), find a better and cheaper version of Mina and make a decision on Holgate.

He may have all the qualitys of a top defender but it's all for nought if he hasn't got it where it counts, in his head. How many times this season has the opposition striker just wandered away from him and got a chance on goal. How many times has he just had a blank moment when a set piece is coming in and it's cost us.

I looked at him when we played Lincoln. All they had was a yard dog up front who every time he tried to bring the ball down it bounced about a mile away from him. All that striker wanted to do was get into a wrestling match and get fouls and that's all zouma did. Instead of using his brain and taking a step back letting the striker try to bring it down and then cut in. He just gave away foul after foul after foul trying to win a test of strength with him.

If I'm honest I think keans been our best defender, although I think mina will be our best defender. People just can't get over how poor he was last year and thats clouding their judgement.

I agree with much of what you say. Although before Silva started switching from 4 to 3 and back again I thought all 3 looked more solid. Mina seemed to suffer most from the change of tactics hence why he ended up on the bench when we went back to a 4. Hopefully he stays fit for the rest of the season and he can be ready to hit the ground running next season with a full pre season behind him and experience of the league.

....I don’t think it’s coincidental that Keane looked better this season because Zouma is alongside. You clearly analyse games, so must have noticed the numerous occasions Zouma covers when forwards have got beyond Keane.

Frances coach should be fired for that, he's doing a crap job anyway. Not picking Keane for the national side is a disgrace, Keane would have been winning the world cup if he played for psg.

To be honest I've noticed that as the dominant cb kean does seem to push out to try to meet the danger while zouma stays back as a sweeper. I don't have any issue with that. What my problem is that zouma has a habit of not tracking the attacker.

Leicester city at home is a prime example. Kean pushes out to win the header and very moves into the space kean has left but zouma is watching the ball and doesn't pick him up. So when the ball comes off kean like he's got a head like a 50 pence piece zouma reacts too slow and we concede.

Same with the derby he lets origi run right past him because again he's just watching the ball. Then pickford makes a hash of it and we concede. Same with the son goal where he panicked and smashed into pickford or the rondon goal where he was just stood there staring off into space. Not all of these goals are down to him but he could of made a difference, he could of stopped them but he just doesn't have that ability to sniff out danger or the intelligence to make the difference.

funny how wrong you are about this, it was Walcott with the 50p header, keane miscontrolled the ball like the dog he is vardy took it off him and went through to slot

I don't think zouma is boss or anything but blaming him for this goal is just daft

Funny how if you actually read my post you'll see I don't actually blame him for that goal. I actually blame Walcott for that stupid header back to our defence for no reason but the fact still remains zouma should of tracked vardy when kean pushed out.

That's why I think we need to bring in players who are used to zonal. There's no point in bringing in new cb's who have to learn it all over again.

Mate there are two glaring errors in that goal, and Zouma isn’t one of them.

None of our CBs have covered themselves in glory this year, but your singling out of Zouma for particular criticism is baffling to me, I think you’re watching another match.

Keane has been pretty poor, especially post-Xmas. Mina hasn’t looked up to the job at all. Zouma hasn’t been great either, but to be honest I think he’s the first CB on the team sheet due to his sheet lack of decent competition.
