2018/19 Yerry Mina

he probably can be used against teams that abuse the long ball, but defending passes and runners and being concentrated, he's pretty poor for a high standard team (if we wish to be one)

Let’s keep things in perspective. Zouma was heavily criticised on here during the poor spell during December. He, along with most of the first team, regained his confidence with the excellent finish we had.
In my opinion, he’s not worth anything like 30m.
Similarly with Keane. The stick he got in his first season and for quite a few games this season (especially when we were performing badly) was relentless. I recall some of the comments....”sell”....”never a centre half”.....”too slow, can’t turn quick enough “ etc etc. Michael Keane still has a very long way to go before he convinces me.

For me, this is a crunch season for both Keane and Zouma. Personally, in the few matches I saw Mina, I saw a decent prospect who will push both the aforementioned Keane and Zouma (if he signs), every inch of the way.

The lad was injured when we bought him and I doubt he was ever totally 100% all season. Played in the Copa America, he’ll now get a rest and come back fully fit for the remainder of the pre-season. I’m expecting a much improved Mina this season.

Last season was crunch for Keane, second season, and he passed with flying colours. This coming season its time for Mina to step up, lets hope he can also come good

Mina may be much better on the ball, but I’d argue that Zouma is a far more intelligent player. He knows when to step up and cut out danger, and he does a good job of stepping into the midfield. That and his pace allows Keane to take more chances as well. Mina seems to rely much more on instinct (which isn’t always a bad thing), but he is prone to more mental errors.

Lets give him a chance.

Last season he was new to the Premier, a league very few defenders come into and settle immediately. I also think it's fair to say that we never saw him fully match fit. Plus 4 of the 7 starts he made in the prem were away to the 4 teams that finished in the champions league spaces.

I was just stating the difference I saw between the two. A lot of people like to knock Zouma for his apparent lack of ability on the ball, but so far he has been far more reliable for me. I’d like to see Mina prove me wrong on the areas I mentioned. Haven’t given up on him or anything.

Interesting dichotomy of opinion surrounding Yuletide...I like the bloke but haven’t really seen enough of him to contribute any informed comment on his quality
