be a joke of we let him go away to the internatinal games coming up. He needs to go for me the wages he is on, just cant play enough games for us.

If there is a parallel universe that Mina did play all 21 games including cup ties. European football may be in reaching distance, plus a healthy cup run potentially..... based on finest statistics, sad but true.

Based on statistics:

Team with Mina: 4W2D1L equivalent to 57%W 29%D 14%L
Team without : 1W2D8L equivalent to 9%W 18%D 73%L
(interestingly, the only one win during this horrendous period is with Mina on the first 1/3. He somehow stabilized the defense without even playing the full match??)

Extrapolate to all the games till now:
*If Mina played all, that will lead you to 10W 5D 3L (actually it's 2.5L, doesn't matter, generously round it up)

That will give you 35 points, joint 5 with Arsenal and extra 2 games in hand

But you only play Man United and Arsenal in that 7 games? But DCL is also out too? Here is the beauty of statistics, it won't lie on certain circumstances, just like 1 in 12. What if these 2 players stay healthy and the team chemistry further flourish and dumped all those mediocrity crap for last decade?

Conclusion: Mina is far more important than anyone in the team, at least result wise. You can still score goals with even longer absence of DCL. But you can't stop leakage without Mina. Or you could summarize that, Benitez's playing philosophy rely so heavily on a commanding & good in the air CB.

No mate, just no.

Mina is a good player, the team is better with him in it but he’s becoming a myth simply by missing games.

There are many more variables to winning an individual game of football than him.

Just take this season, look at the games he played in - start of the season before the squad mega injury crisis, strong (for us) first 11.

Now look at the games he’s been out, during a squad injury crisis, where we’ve fielded patchwork first 11’s, changing week to week depending on who was fit, nowhere near our strongest first 11.

If you just look at the games we’ve won and lost this season with/without Mina then you’d reach your conclusion, he is by far our most important player. In reality we had a better chance of winning the games he played in because the overall first eleven was stronger and we were playing lower half of the league opposition.

He’s now returning to the squad at a point where the injuries have all cleared up, only Tom Davies injured. The squad and first 11 will be back closer to full strength, you’d expect results to improve. Using your flawed logic, that’ll be down to Mina returning…

What stats do show is he misses a lot of games. Should have sold him in the summer.

You are right. 11 players on the pitch. Even if you scored more goals than conceding, you can still win that match. A bit unlucky with him, DCL and Richarlison sidelined for so long...

Myth or not, we have lost one in 7 with him in the team

He’s our best defender, by a distance too. Not even arsed about his injury record, if he can play half the games in a season it’s better than watching the others play, we need to tie him down to a new contract. Sell Holgate and Keane, and buy another starter giving us Mina, Godfrey, Branthwaite and a new CB. Either that or sell him in the summer, we cannot risk losing him on a free.

He’s not going to sign a new contract.

What do you think we could have got for him if we’d sold in the summer I.e. with 24 months on his contract, versus what we can get this summer with 12 on his contract?
