Young EFC Players Out on Loan 2019-20

Dowell would be someone who could easily be moved on if it never worked out. Honestly I'm struggling to see the down side to extending him. And he's only 22 so saying he can't make it at PL level seems to be jumping the gun a bit.

At this stage, given the way contracts are and how lower league clubs are going to have massive financial troubles it doesn't make much sense to extend, at most much beyond a year.

In a perfect world he has a run and if he does ok we then sign him up to a more medium term deal.

As most of us do I really want us to build a young team of homegrown talent.
Just think he's found his level, when he has played he's just looked a yard off the pace and hasn't shown the level of physicality needed in the Prem. Granted he hasn't had much of a chance, but players have to grab it when they get the opportunity.

I just honestly don't know how you can say that based on 2 League Cup games with multiple changes. A yard off the pace in 1 game means nothing.

And I hate that found his level thing. That only applies when someone has categorically failed at the higher level. 2 games is no way to determine failure. Otherwise, we would be in very, very big trouble.

It's a fair point, but what I would say is that yesterday, and his general performances at Wigan would seem to indicate to me that he's actually well above the level as opposed to have found it. And two of the players operating in his position at this level (Iwobi/Sigurdsson) seem to be flunking it to me.

What a player I hoped he'd be. I watched an u23 match against reading a few years back DCL, Davies, Kenny, holgate, dowell even niasse all played. Walsh stood out by a mile as the best player on the pitch.

....Walsh’s move to Bristol hasn’t quite worked out but his performances for Coventry on loan this season were outstanding. I backed them @ 28-1 to win the title and Walsh was the key in that bet coming in. Be very interesting to see what the future holds for him.

Thing is whatever managers saw ( or didn't) in training wasn't enough to get him more than a couple of starts. Like Beni we all think given the dire midfield he should get a chance, yet Ancelotti doesn't.Must be a reason.

Well like I said in an earlier post, I believe Ancelotti should, and hopefully will, work on the basis that its a fresh start for all players we have under contract that he has yet to have the chance to work with, Kenny, Bolasie, Sandro & Dowell. And if they can't motivate themselves to give it all they have got to have the opportunity to work under a manager like him, then maybe they should pick a new career.

For the record, and I know this is a thread about young players on loan, but even Bolasie. People say he has failed here.im not his greatest fan, but to be honest, I don't even think he has been given the fairest opportunity to show his worth. He had 3 months or so at the beginning of his time here, when he was doing OK, then suffered a potentially career ending injury, missed over a year, then had another 3 months or so under Allardyce in a team set to grind out points. He may not be the answer. Probably isn't. But he has played fewer games for us than Iwobi, yet scored more and had more assists.

Back to Dowell. He has played fewer Premier League minutes than Gbamin. If you feel that is enough to time to judge his "level", then so be it. But personally, on what I've seen, I think he is worth at least a try.

Didn't say that about Walsh,I said a few managers haven't seen enough to play him more than twice. What we think is immaterial.

So you're saying we had great managers when Walsh was with us? For the record, both Unsworth and Royle, who were closely involved in Walsh's development time at Everton, saw Walsh as the best of the youngsters coming through at the time.

I didn't mention Walsh? Steve or Liam.

But for the record, I did say back in January that I'd take Liam back now. Even playing League 1 football, I still think he'd improve this midfield, and his contract is up this summer. Low cost, low risk signing, good age, knows the club, and the club know all about him.

The manager most responsible for that was Marco Silva and he's decided that Gylfi Sigurdsson was such a good #10 that he needed to start any time he was healthy. So sure, trust him if you'd like.

I agree about Bolasie before his injury but afterward he did play a fair bit under Allardyce (not a ton of time but it was like 10 starts) and just didn't look like he could move as well nor was he very good. Since then he's gone on a series of loans and never really clicked except for a short spell in Belgium. I can't see him ever really being a PL level player again but I guess no harm in a few weeks to see.

Also agree on Dowell.

Ancelotti doesn't and I think he'll have the last word.
