I'd like to see us try something like this above, but obviously that may only work in certain fixtures. Even with that team there are quite a few risks. How well would Kenny cope, and 2 of that back 4 would be inexperienced. But then I also think, where has experience got us? With Jagielka and Williams we've been getting humiliated so how can Kenny and Holgate do any worse? Baines needs rotating now and again so i'd play Martina as a left wing back occasionally or look at giving Garbutt the odd game. Lookman may also not be ready but I really think we need some width in this team. Otherwise teams can set up so easily against us.
Garbutt is dung these days.
Can he be any worse than Baines has been? Not so sure.
What is it?
There's some comment around Koeman not knowing his best 11, and it's probably a fair critique. He'd probably even admit that.
What I think is Everton's biggest problems;
- Lack of pace.
- Gana/Schneiderlin. I'm not convinced on two defensive midfielders - big fan of Schneiderlin and Gana, so much so I think only one is needed to disrupt play. The game has moved on a fair bit but Vieira, Keane, Essien etc didn't need someone sat beside them in that role. They took accountability for that part of the pitch and did it well. I think having both of them limits us going forward and creates a vacuum.
- Sigurdsson/Rooney - Similar to above. Go with either of them - give them a clear, defined role. As is, they're floating about, seemingly doing whatever they want - stepping on eachothers toes. I'd tell one of them to sit behind the striker - make that position theirs.
- Consistency. Koeman is changing it too much. I mentioned 7 summer signings starting vs Spurs and looking like strangers - he needs to find an 11, an stick with it for a run of games. No player can play an instinctive second guess ball which makes the lack of pace even more obvious.
All that considered, my Everton 11 would be what this lad tweeted;
It has balance/pace/energy - what would be your Everton 11?
