The database behind FM is one of the most well researched and comprehensive scouting resources available. I think almost every club makes some use of their professional offering (not the computer game, the data and assessments made by the 1200 scouts they employ).

It is complex to the point that a child couldn't play it.

And because FM has thousands of scouts across the world and football clubs do tap into that database/scouting network. It is isn't a fortune teller but it is based off scouting. The Football Manager documentary is a good eye opener and that was around 10 years ago. It is a VAST database.
