I absolutely love it when young players play badly. It gives me something to project all my life frustrations onto.
Minor issue, he was 12m.….even when they play poorly, you look for signs that there’s a player in there. One decent hold up and lay-off in the box was about as good as it got but he’s got decent physicality. £17m at this stage seems way over the top but Thelwell obviously thinks it’s going to prove well spent.
I reckon the true price will have been far less than £10m down payment, and a couple of million in unrealistic add-ons. Wouldn't surprise me if we paid about £5m for him. Needs loading out as he's miles off at the moment, which is to be expected. No criticism of the lad, he's dead young, barely played for Sporting and has just moved to a bigger and better league in a foreign country. I'll judge him in two years if he's still here.….even when they play poorly, you look for signs that there’s a player in there. 12.5m euros was the fee for Chermiti according to transfermarket….even when they play poorly, you look for signs that there’s a player in there. Hard to judge any attacker in that 1st half as we could not put two passes together - no wingers or overlapping fullbacks - midfield & defence woeful & include our keeper too... worst first half of an Everton team v lower opposition ever IMO ... so hard to judge this young lad upfront on his own ....….even when they play poorly, you look for signs that there’s a player in there. We sold two of our youth strikers that people at the club deemed not suitable to play the number nine position for Everton for deals that could total c£15m.
We then used those funds to purchase one player on a deal worth up to c£15m that the recruitment team feel does meet the requirements for an Everton number nine.
Seems fairly logical to me.
It's also one of the stupid side effects of FFP being purely P&L based that selling academy products for pure profit is the best thing you can do, then you can bring in other players and amortise the cost. It's why you see the likes of Chelsea and Man City doing the same albeit on a grander scale, unless the rules changed academy products will be profit generators more than anything and the first players for the chop when teams need to work on their FFP position. We sold two of our youth strikers that people at the club deemed not suitable to play the number nine position for Everton for deals that could total c£15m.
