2023/24 Nathan Patterson

He does.

"Wasn't me"

Here at 1:01:05.

I mention it because it sheds a bit of light on his mindset.

It's kinda sad how much your bigotry is forcing you to make things up. Some sort of Scottish lip reader now.

He appears to have gone to the Seamus Coleman school of crossing.

He’s young and had a fair few injury issues so I’m willing to give him a bit more time but it hasn’t been the most promising start to the season.

Hows Patterson getting the blame for this goal? Ignoring all the issues before Pedro Neto gets the ball, theres at least 6 players who play a significantly greater role in conceding that goal.

Heres a more in depth break down of the Wolves goal if you can be bothered to read it (without images unfortunately to highlight the problems). Go and watch the replays of their goal and tell me if I'm wrong?

Pedro Neto receives the ball almost on the touchline almost in line with the end of the centre circle and is allowed the carry it to the 18 yard line (not even going a full tilt so gives time for Wolves to get a few men in the box.

Danjuma goes out to support Young as Neto makes that run. Young maybe sticking to the Dyche tactics and oartly worried about the ball in behind to Sarabia which drags Branthwaite out and he marks.

Neto is allowed to stop and cut back under absolutely no pressure as Young and Danjuma stand miles off him so hes got all the time in the world to pick an accurate cross.

In theory you've got Patterson marking their number 3, Tarkowski on Kalajdzic (the main danger obviously), Branthwaite on Neto and Onana covering Gomes at the edge of the box. No extra cover so its always a risk. Garners is marking their left back coming in late too. Doucoure running back with their other centre midfielder, both well out the picture

Despite Branthwaite coming out to the left back area cover Sarabia making the run in behind Young. He decides to stand, switch of and ignore Sarabia run in behind him leaving a massive gap between him and Tarkowski.

Gueye is getting back at this point so you think they will sort it but as soon as Neto cuts back, Gueye just ignores Sarabia too as well as Branthwaite . He marks "space" and pays zero attention to the back line watches as Young and Danjuma stand off Neto allowing him to make the perfect cross.

So you've now got Young (most at fault for this part of the goal), Danjuma, Gueye and Branthwaite (his lack of positional sense at this time is very costly too and cant be underestimated as I think it causes the indecision from Tarkowski and potentially Pickford (these two at most fault along with Young). Hes literally standing on the 18 yard line as Neto cuts back to cross and stands still. Sarabia has run abput 10 yards in behind closer to the 6 yard box.

In fairness to Tarkowsi, I think he spots the issues with Branthwaite and Gueye (leaving a massive gap for an EPL standard attacker to pick out a runner under no pressure) ignoring Sarabia and it looks like hes barking instructions to fix it and the split second costs him dearly as he forgets his primary task of marking Kalajdzic who drifts off behind and makes the run catching Tarkowski flat footed.

The cross comes from about 20 yards out and only a couple yards from the side line so its got a distance to travel. Kalajdzic is already on the move literally from the penalty spot and gets to the ball around 5/6 yards from Pickfords line.

Pickford started about 2 yards off hisbline when Neto cut the ball back. Its a clear weakness for him and decided not say he cant command his box makes that fine is crazy. Possibly hes distracted from Sarabia too in case Neto reverses a ball to him and doesnt choose to take command to cut the cross out as hes literally 3-4 yards away from the point where Kalajdzic connects with the ball and he had to travel much further.

Patterson is about 5-6 yards away from Kalajdzic and on the wrong side of him but isnt in a bad position to stop any balls to number 3. To expect him to leave his man in a split second to cover Tarkowski being distracted by other postional issues and cover when he has a man and Tarkowski was initially well positioned to mark Kalajdzic until he switched off.

You may as well say Onana should have left his man too and got there.

Pickford, Tarkowski, Young at biggest fault due to direct result of cross and goal. Followed by Branthwaite getting caught in no mans land causing confusion and then Gueye for not bothering to try improve it. Danjuma you could argue couldve pressed Neto especiallynwhen he cut back so he is probably as guilty as Gueye at least if not more.

Patterson falls way below and of the names above in causing this goal. There may have been plenty other issues with his game and development required but he didn't cost the point directly from this goal.

Once your brain has decided it doesnt like a player/person whatever the circumstances (even if justified on past events), it naturally looks to pick up on their problems or blame them for situations in future even when its not their fault. Unfortunately, some people struggle use their brain power to analyse when they are doing this

This seasons looks like we can only hope that their are at least 3 teams with bigger problems than us!

Checking. Was it all nathan Patterson fault? Should he have won the header off a 6 8 player in the goal area? Perhaps if he played for a different youth team it would have played out differently? What kind of church does he go to? Does that make a difference?

A bunch of posters have pointed out that Dyche's tactics include the full backs coming inside to become very narrow (like a 4 CB backline).

That is what is causing Patterson to be quite far off the opposition winger when there seems to be a lot of space between them.

We saw the same with Mykolenko and now Young at left back last season.

That is clearly causing him issues with typically Garner out of position defensively and Keane and now a couple of Tarkowski errors being laid at his door.

First gams wasnt good last two hes been fine. Certainly an agenda against him.
