2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Set up another 1 on 1 for Beto

In no way was that a 1 on 1. It was rolled to Beto with the last defender still in front of him.

I thought he was also in a good position to make that a one-two for a tap in but didn't feel confident enough to demand it back off Beto.

There could be any number of reasons he isn’t being played as regularly as he should, not necessarily because of performance / impact on team. It could be because of the reported obligation, or he may have a bad attitude in training (he has jumped from club to club in his last few years).

On the positive side, because we are relatively safe it could be because we know we want to sign him, and want to keep him ‘under wraps’ a little. The less he is in the ‘shop window’ the better for us when it comes to his signature. Decisions as to whether to select someone are not always purely footballing decisions.

He’s not started because Moyes likes the physicality that Doucs brings, it’s as simple as that. I’m sure he’ll get more starts though, and very confident we’ll sign him.

Says it all!!

There was no player between him and the gk and he shot first time .

I’m not dogging at Beto , I wish he’d scored obviously but he’s getting good opportunities and making the keeper make decent saves and if he continues to do so then he will continue to score goals until the end of the season imo

Not bothered what he’s like in training it’s games that matter. You can see the passion he has.
Every day attitude is important - if you haven’t got that quality in the game will eventually drop off - but it’s an unusual decision not to start him instead of Doucoure if that’s the only criteria which is why I think there is more around the decision making

Hi. First post on here. Carlos Alcaraz reminds me of David Moyes' signing of Lucy's Paqueta for West Ham from Lyon in 2022. Moyes was a bit cautious about playing the Brazilian from the start of matches at first as his sometimes outrageous latino play acting and flair meant he could be a bit of a liability at times. However, Moyes eventually realised he could not change those ways and accepted that they were often out weighed by moments of inspirational genius which could turn big important matches around - like he did with his fantastic assist against Fiorentina in the Conference Cup victory in 2023. It was subsequently no surprise therefore that the likes of Man City were ready to pay big money for him (that is, before the illicit betting accusations cropped up). Alcaraz, in my opinion (for what it's worth), doesn't quite have the same flair as Paqueta but I believe he could turn out to be an even better signing than him in that he will be less of a liability in giving the ball away etc., and will often turn matches in Everton's favour with moments of sheer genius, graft and improvisation. His late-ish introduction against Wolves almost paid dividends in that respect. Hopefully Everton will be able to snap him up permanently at the end his loan spell at the club as he will be a huge factor in Moyes' plans for future successes in both the Premier League and possibly European competitions . However, a big concern will be keeping him if the likes of huge European clubs and regular Champions League contenders, like Real Madrid, come after him and turn his head (not to mention the heads of the club's bankers). I really honestly think he is that good and believe David Moyes thinks so too.

🤔 Take another look mate.

Beto was put through and the last defender was still in front of him and he took the shot on from pretty much there.

He wasn't one on one with the GK at all.

Beto hasn’t the composure to play it back to him. Had a similar chance late on at Brentford, if he’d squared it Alcaraz would have had a far easier chance. I suppose with the goals he’s scored recently, he was feeling confident, but the last two games his poor finishing has cost us 4 points.

Yeah, I suppose no striker is turning down that chance.

But I was surprised to see:

a/ Alcaraz not signalling he wanted a tap in
b/ Alcaraz not giving Beto an earful after he missed
