2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

….lovely to see so many Derby County fans remembering Leon Osman so fondly despite only playing 17 games for them over 20 years ago. Many saying Osman was key to them avoiding certain relegation back then and hoping another Everton loanee does the same now.

Osman was a maestro of a footballer, let’s hope Armstrong plays 300+ games for The Toffees.

Osman had a massive impact there. I think it was Moyes first or second season.

Osman was very cultured and underrated in the way he could use the ball but particularly get the ball up the pitch, in a way i always used to think he was more suited to the European game then English - he always did so well in Europe.

Been having a look on their forum as well - nice to see a few mentions of Dobbin also - we've had some successful loans between the two clubs.

Thought the same thing that's a controlled technique, what strikes me about him is performances are so mature and composed for a just gone 18 year old, very unique.

….spot-on, his composure is highlighted in the quote above. He apparently gave the ball away leading to the Plymouth equaliser so it’s important he’s with a Manager who allows him to make mistakes.

….yep, Osman made the difficult look so easy which is why he’s so underrated.

He transitioned from defence into attack seamlessly, I loved watching him for the Academy teams, standing on the sidelines with his Dad and younger brother, he had such magical feet on the edge of the opposition box, only Rooney surpassed him in terms of quality at that level. I read it was one of Moyes’ proudest moments when Osman got his England cap.

In the highlight reel i saw, he seems to know when to try break the line with that through ball but also when to make the 5 yarder to hold possession and keep the play ticking and when to up the tempo - speed up the play and slow it down. Its very rare to see that is someone so young in my opinion.

He will make mistakes of course, like yesterday - its no harm either that he he gets the occasional rocket from his manager and keep him grounded. Often feel thats were we went wrong with Barkley.

….he certainly looks like he has a range of passing and the composure to look up and pick the right one (Beto goal).

He’s got good size but not particularly fast, I thought he might be more of a Sigurdsson type but he seems to also like a tackle so maybe he’s got more physicality. Have no idea if he’s more of a no8 or a no10, it’s just terrific to have a player with genuine potential.

Osman was a grafter and a very average player, he embodies the absurd acceptance of mediocrity by some blues. There is reason he never moved on a single thing of note once his career ended, sits on sky telling actual footballers how to play when this fella never won a single trophy in his life.

400 appearances and not a single thing to show for it.
