Last Film You Watched

My lad’s doing film studies at A level so every Friday we watch a movie together, we watched Blade Runner Directors cut. A bit of a strange one really, never appreciated it at the time, but now love it more for its artistic merits and score than anything else.
What's been your favourites?

So far as blade runner goes, what do you think? spoiler it if you need to.

I reckon he's an off the shelf replicant killer, when they get a Roy Batty situation they thaw another Deckard and send him into harms way. Olmos is interesting in such a small part but with so much overview, is he also replicant? The origami is symbolism of what? perfect ornamental creatures/specimens (snake foreshadowing) and the convergence of Deckard and Rachael in that it is only after Kampff test by him does she become self aware, yet ironically he isn't. Is it this innocence and thus beauty Batty saves later and releases the dove...
How many times have Batty and Deckard faced off previously in the game of cat & mouse the company is solely responsible.

I always saw the origami as a symbol of man’s ability to create and the dove was symbolic about spirit/soul but I won’t go into any more detail than that as I don’t know how to hide my messages with a spoiler - dead technical me 😄

That`s the beauty of both of the Blade Runner films, what you see and how you interpret it, is subjective to you and no one else.

Also, every time you watch them, you always see something in a different way or a tiny little detail that you missed or think you missed last time you watched it.

There's a great book, Future Noir by Paul Sammon that goes into great depth about the making and the differences in the versions and how they effect the narrative. Well worth a read

Finally got around to watch the Blade Runner sequel. Very disappointing film, featuring nearly all of the flaws that ruin modern cinema and about 2% of the film that the original is.

However, Ana de Armas is ludicrously attractive.
I very much appreciate the first one (proper cut), but I didn't hate the second one. Leto doesn't live up as a decent enough baddie, and it was a bit convoluted, I also saw certain parts telegrammed early doors. It's very pretty. There have been worse reimagining's. It's ahead of all the alien remakes after aliens. Same with all the terminators after T2. I liked Ford smouldering on screen again. Think I'm tired of Gosling as well, could have swapped him in from 'Driver' into this role and vice versa almost seamlessly.

I saw the latest Captian America film last night and I truthfully don't know if the whole comic film thing has finally passed me by or if this was legit just terrible. Its the first MCU film I've seen since the last Spiderman and only the second since End Game (though I've watch a few shows or at least bits of them) and it just feels flat to me. Like there's almost no plot or at least very little worth seeing. I didn't even bother waiting for the end credits (I presume these are still a thing?). Was it just me? Am I just the grumpy old guy that doesn't get it or was this just pretty bad?

I still like (good) comic book films but I agree this was not one of them. Marvel has definitely been more miss than hit since Endgame.
