Fingers crossed TFG veto any transfers like that or we'll be back in trouble in no time.West Ham will likely have to sell some players this summer. It wouldn’t surprise me if Moyes goes for Soucek despite him just turning 30. Moyes signed Distin when he was 31, and we already have Tim and Armstrong coming through in the central midfield position.
Doucoure and Mangala both need replacing as well. At the right price, I can see us going for Soucek.
Soucek is a very good player, what would be the issue with signing him? Depending on fee of course.Fingers crossed TFG veto any transfers like that or we'll be back in trouble in no time.
If we can get him for a decent price he's good squad material but will WHam want to sell to a rival for a decent priceSoucek is a very good player, what would be the issue with signing him? Depending on fee of course.
Probably not.If we can get him for a decent price he's good squad material but will WHam want to sell to a rival for a decent price
£100k a week, £20 million fee, would want a 3 year contract and will probably be finished in 18 months, no resale value. So £35 million loss. If you buy a 22 year old in the same position you'll pay lower wages and after the 3 years you either still have a player or you have a saleable asset.Soucek is a very good player, what would be the issue with signing him? Or the 22 year old will be crap and Soucek could be good for another 5 years. Comparing an actual player to a hypothetical one is a massive waste of time£100k a week, £20 million fee, would want a 3 year contract and will probably be finished in 18 months, no resale value. Its not a 35m loss if he helps us win football games.£100k a week, £20 million fee, would want a 3 year contract and will probably be finished in 18 months, no resale value. So £35 million loss. I just don't think we're in a position where we can sign players on £100k a week unless they're going to score 20 goals a season. I don't mind experience, and some of our best players have been at the end of their careers but they need to be on realistic wages, and free transfers like Gueye, Barry etcIts not a 35m loss if he helps us win football games.
I get the upside of buying young players, but you need experience to go with it.
People who think we will buy a load of 17 year olds this Summer are in for a shock.
Fair enough, I dont think we could get the fella "on the cheap", so it would probably be a bit much for us at this time, considering we need a LOT of players.I just don't think we're in a position where we can sign players on £100k a week unless they're going to score 20 goals a season. Age, fee, wages.Soucek is a very good player, what would be the issue with signing him? Depending on fee of course.
TFG have by all accounts said they won’t be spending big on over age players. The only players coming in over a certain age, will be free’s and loans imo.Its not a 35m loss if he helps us win football games.

But they can still just buy them both before the cup, AND during the cup. Only 5 of the 63 matches happen before the window reopens on the 16th, and the cup runs until July 13th. I think its just an excuse to have it open 2 weeks early.Think the whole point is that clubs playing in that Club World Cup thingy can't sign players during the competition. There would certainly be a temptation to buy opponents key player with the prize money on offer.
