New Everton Stadium Discussion

It won't just be used on matchdays though will it? It's not Goodison. Huge concerts and events will be held there for one thing, so it will bring a lot of visitors and help with enabling development on the docks.

Jobs and prosperity > some phony WHS that every NIMBY in the city hides behind to stop anything get built.
Suppose thats a fair point

Whats this about you going into the jungle anyway? Looking for Moatey?

What design feature makes BMD the automatic choice over the larger Anfield for concerts etc, how will these be additional tourists to now, as LFC have already got into that market? If the stadium had a full or closing roof and or moving pitch i would see that argument.

What enabling developments are there going to be because of BMD? I don't think I've seen any enabling developments specific to the stadium project and certainly none contributing to its cost. Apart from a small hotel development which i think was coming anyway, I may have missed them. Yes, it could act as a prompt for quicker developments of a certain type, not definitively an enabler..... but thus far that hasn't even stretched to new infrastructure by way of a new station at Vauxhall. It could be a driver for the Lime Line trackless tram proposals... running directly from Sandhills to link all developments along the waterfront and town.

Anfield have only got the permission for 5 years for concerts. Beyond that it'll be resident dependent if they apply again. Both can still hold concerts though if it comes down to it. You get summer gigs at both Manchester football stadiums.

Maybe not enabling development, but If you build the ground at BMD it should accelerate further development in the nearby docks. Peel have had the land for years and sat on it. Once the walkway is there linking Princes Dock to BMD it'll be a good opportunity to open a business. There's been plenty of plans but it's needed a kickstart.

You'll have retails, leisure, hospitality and pubs/restaurants rocking up within walking distance over the coming years imo.

That is very impressive knowledge...you seem a specialist in this field. Have you considered offering your services to the Developers? Oh by the way...you don't know anything about the relocation of fish do you?
I do.
Easiest way is a very large net (the width of the entire dock) and weighted at the bottom. You then gradually drag it from the wall towards the river. All the fish are forced out and you keep the net in place until the walls are sealed.

I could be wrong, but a stadium on the waterfront within walking distance of the city centre is surely more likely to be suitable and get approval for a rock concert than one in the middle of a suburban area?

The walking distance from Lime St station to Anfield is 2 miles, it is 1.9 miles to BMD, so there's hardly a great difference in walking distance from our national rail hub. Plus of course Anfield has more approach roads from all directions and is nearer to the motorway. You may be right about the residential nuisance factor, but the make-up of the developments around BMD may also be mainly residential.... they certainly were in the original outline plans for that end of Liverpool waters. Yes, if public transport infrastructure along the waterfront is much improved, preforably with it's own dedicated system, then there is a better case for good mass people movement from the city centre. It would be more convincing again if there was a moving pitch and closing roof to give it proper year-round multi-use and make it the largest indoor arena outside of Cardiff. At £500-600m that should've been possible..... unless of course that's not the real cost.

Definitely agree with you about the roof and I was surprised it wasn’t included in the design since ,as you rightly note, it would have greatly enhanced multi use and boosted potential profitability.

Does anyone remember Everton sending a questionnaire about the new stadium around 6 months ago asking about including craft beer on tap around the new stadium? That would certainly get the hipster crowd in place spending money at the stadium.
