Russia invades Ukraine, America and Europe jump up and down in anger,
Financial restrictions are placed on the Russian state and Russian individuals.
In time the Germans will want to buy Russian gas again, European countries will want to be able to export their goods to Russia and everything will go back to normal.

Putin knows this and is prepared to take some short term pain.

If the West did take military action to assist Ukraine then it would be WW3 and possibly nuclear.

Agreed. Between a possibly senile US president, a dithering blundering liar in No.10 and a European Union that needs years of meetings to make a decision on anything we are at a disadvantage against a narcissistic autocrat.

Let's just hope the clown Prince Boris doesn't seize the opportunity to attempt to do his Churchill bit and make the situation worse.

Heil Adolf Putin.

His desire is to recreate the Soviet Union, already effectively has control of Belarus, Part of Georgia, Kazakstan, Azerbaijan.

Other European Countries may now worry.

There is unfortunately no way this resolves that easily.

NATO will prove itself to be toothless as it will have to agree a concession to Russia, it may have provided a relatively stable environment since its inception but it has never stopped conflict and certainly not one that could spread as quickly as this one may?

Fortunately i think Cold War Mutually Assured Destruction assertions will come to the fore but the real pain will be felt, as always by Joe Public, firstly in Ukraine and maybe surrounding regions but on the wider scale there is no money in the pot and with rising Oil and Gas and the knock on effect of that, people will be under extreme financial pressure!

This is not a good situation globally but in the present Europe wide.

only the Elite have the resources to maintain their living standards.

This depends on what you mean as links.

The club is sponsored by a Russian company that someone may or may not have shares in. These commercial deals were finalised a long time before any potential sanctions may have been agreed, and have been covered by the law of this country at the point of signing.

Worth noting the champions league, sponsored heavily by Gazprom. I dont suppose those teams playing in the CL will be handing back any commercial money partially funded through Gazprom?

However there appears to be no formal link, in terms of shareholding from anyone prescribed, or indeed anyone in any way connected to Russia, never mind Putin.

Those 2 things are qualitatively different. Being sponsored by a company who may have a shareholder who may or may not be linked to a country engaged in warfare will be very common. Having a shareholder who is will not be.

Its important to note that difference, and probably why Usmanov has chosen to never formalised a relationship.

My understanding is he did own shares in Arsenal. That seems more of a question to me than anything that can addresses to us.
Where does Moshiri earn the money he spends on Everton. His partial ownership of USM. That raises two issues. Firstly, what happens when the west starts freezing the assets of Russian companies and their owners. Secondly, why would Moshiri fund a new stadium when his assets could be frozen at anytime. Why would the banks or finacial institutions get involved in a project that could get frozen at any time.

There is a clear precedent here. Abramovich was going to spend north of a Billion on a new stadium for Chelsea. The plans for the Stadium were shelved when he ran into visa problems in 2018.

We are now in a financial situation that means the Club would instantly become insolvent without the funding that comes directly or indirectly from USM. If people think this seems far-fetched then USM has already been targetted by the west. The 'S' in 'USM' Andrei Skoch has been subject to US sanctions since 2018.

From the US treasury. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sm0338

Andrei Skoch is being designated for being an official of the Government of the Russian Federation. Skoch is a deputy of the Russian Federation’s State Duma. Skoch has longstanding ties to Russian organized criminal groups, including time spent leading one such enterprise.

Stuff the sanctions, they mean jack.

They didn't work after the Crimea was annexed by the nutcase, they won't work now, and the west should have done something more forceful then.

Time to fight fire with fire.

Moshiri is ok but we should ditch Usmanov. Clearly a Kremlin guy. We don't need his blood spilled money

I am not advocating military action, I am explaining the calculation Putin has made when invading Ukraine.

Europe is largely divided and the US is weak.
Biden , however, may see this as a way of showing to the American people that he can be a strong leader to boost his falling popularity figures.
