Why in the world would Maciek Kaminski throw away a large amount of money so that some guy who doesnt put much money in can help Moshiri out. And even beyond that, what would Thornton possible get out of it? Not much. Yeah, two rich people are related to mining companies. Thornton has way more to loose, since he is already very rich, by helping out someone who will get him blacklisted in his spheres of influence, and since what he cares most about is influence, that seems opposite of his motivations.
