A bit grim this BUT if this is a Lampard signing I’ll get behind it. Lampard has worked with him first hand and if he believes bringing him in improves the team then we should get behind him (and our manager)

He let him go on loan to Villa though. Seems an unusual thing to do if he thinks the player is really good...

Did anyone honestly think we’d ever re-sign this lad?

We all joked he’d end up somewhere like Newcastle or West Ham. We are now the team we envisioned them to be back then. Grim.

How long before he starts getting KO’d in town again.

It's funny how things change and we have advertently gone in that direction we thought Newcastle and West Ham would've gone in

Think we're a bit hamstrung with how we're paying for targets to it limits the pool.

I'm guessing Chelsea want Barkley out and we can see a good deal

100% it boils down to lack of funds, who we can realistically target and who will actually come.

It would be a dreadful move still for all the reasons previously mentioned though. I don't know if he's finished or not, I've barely seen him at Chelsea tbh but he'd he getting it both barrels from a large section of the fanbase that's that's sure.

He's not got the Liverpool connections that Benitez had, so he could win round supporters with performances on the pitch. Football fans have short memories when someone is doing the business for the team.

The problem with that is that he has been pretty rubbish ever since he left us, and I think he's finished at the top level.

Yeah this is the issue.
Is Ross better than Gomes or Davies... 100% even on his day off.
But he wont be allowed a bad half at GP without most of the ground ripping him apart.
Cant see why he would think coming back would be good for him either, then again he was/is thick as pig sht.

True mate, results and performances are what counts and if he stuck in a few match winning performances early doors that would do him no harm at all.

But before a ball was kicked there would barely be any goodwill to him, he'd be getting analysed in everything he does (or doesn't do) then there would be what kind of wages is he on. He'll be looking at around 100k+ probably when his talent means he should be on closer to the 30k a week.

Let's see what happens and if it does happen, hear the reasons behind Lampard and Thelwells thinking. I'd like to think that EVERY signing we make has been signed off by the 2 of them

I'd like to think there's no way he would be on 100k, but who knows. He's not worth anywhere near that kind of money these days.

I don't have a problem with the fact he went to Chelsea, because that's football. He probably regrets the move too because his career went completely in the wrong direction. My problem with this move is entirely due to the fact I don't think he's good enough any more.
